[ After a frantic night of checking absolutely everything - making sure he was all in one piece, all his data collected together and secure, untouched - Ash contacts the network for the first time in months. And he sounds less than happy, to make a considerable understatement. The usually smug and collected voice sounds rattled as it patches ( Read more... )

[ This time, Yako doesn't respond with a video; she's still a little too shaken up for it. She does, however, sound very tired. ]

The City's power was out for a while. It's been kind of ... stressful.

[ ... And, well, she can't imagine he'll react well to this: ]

Since you don't remember anything about it... I'm guessing the power to wherever you are must have been shut down too. Are you all right?

[ unfortunately, he's not the least bit sensitive to her tiredness, especially in his somewhat-fretful state of mind. He only responds to the latter part, sounding testy - the program's thoughts are elsewhere. He'd never been shut down before... ]

Yes. Don't pester me with such a pointless question.

[ You don't sound all right, she almost says, but unlike someone else, Yako has tact (or a rough approximation thereof). Instead: ]

Isn't there a way to find out if you lost any data during the power outage? Like a backup, or something.

[ tact? what's that? CAN IT BE USED AS FUEL ]

I've already checked, you nosy little brat. I haven't lost anything.

[ ...probably ]

[ She'll take his word for it. EXCEPT NOT. ]

Is this the first time something like this has happened here? [ By all accounts, and not just Ash's, it sounds like it. ] It seems like it caught a lot of people by surprise.

Yes, it is, and yes, it did. Did the panicking on all accounts tip you off? What impressive detective work.

[ Always friendly, Ash. ]

It looks like it caught you off guard, too.

There's one more thing: there was an explosion, during the blackout... I'm not sure what exactly was destroyed, but it was hard to miss. No one knows exactly who caused it, though.

[ it's in his nature. B'| ]

Of course it did. I didn't have to deal with such incompetence back home.

Where was this explosion?

What do you plan to do if it happens again?

It was more like a series of explosions. It was somewhere in Sector 2; according to the news, one of SERO's labs got blown up, along with a few other buildings. It was at night, so there weren't too many casualties, but there was a lot of damage.

It won't happen again. Accidents don't happen to me more than once.

[ meh. He's a part of SERO, technically, but doesn't feel much of an emotional attachment to them at all, and thus has little reaction. He files that information away for now. ]
