The priorities of this city astound me, sometimes.

[Re-l's voice is rigid and unemotional, surprisingly, kept in check with every ounce of control that she has.]There's a killer on the loose and instead of putting their best people on the case, they're taking any volunteers. No one wants to get their hands dirty and no one wants to go against ( Read more... )

He did seem to have quite the affect on people, for not being a terribly chatty man.

He did a lot of work and was usually out with friends. I guess he didn't have time for the network. Still, he did a lot of good with kids.

Happy anniversary. Are you drinking?

And I did recommend a holiday. Should have listened, then you wouldn't be in this fix.

Thank you. And I might be.

It wouldn't have changed anything. Then I would just feel like I was being useless when it all happened.

Good! Drinking what?

If you will take a momentary pause to recollect properly, I suggested a holiday before all this began anew in earnest. You could have been relaxing previous to all these decapitations without a care in the world--so again: should have listened.

I have no idea. It has peach schnapps in it.

Yes, you did. I'm agreeing with you. I'm saying that if I took a holiday then and came back with my partner dead, I still would have felt responsible for not being at his side.

Why bother if they're going to treat you like shit?

Because it's better to try than to do nothing at all.

But will it even matter?

I think it will, eventually, in the long run.

[First Daedalus is forced to take a break, and now Re-l? Raul can't help but wonder if he might be next.]

Perhaps this will be another reason why, as newcomers, pulling together and looking for a way into an office of import is necessary.

[No one will ever make you take a break until you want to fire up some nukes.]

Office of import? Who on earth would elect us besides other newcomers? Do our votes even count?

[Guess I'll be going on break next week then.]

If the newcomers band together to form their own political party, then we cannot be ignored during elections. And you would be surprised; more people like certain newcomers more then you might think.

Are the others on the case competent at all?

I don't know all of them very well, but I'm hoping so.

The ones you do know?

I'd say they're fairly competent enough. The issue is whether or not they can care so much about the case, and I'm not sure if they do.
