Hm.

[Crocodile checks his pocket-watch, then picks up a newspaper to check the date.]

It would seem I'm another year older, then. Strange, how even on different worlds, we follow the same general time delineations. I suppose it's the little similarities that amaze me the most.

I wonder, how many of you have been here for a full year of life? More than ( Read more... )

I've been here barely over three months. In a year...it's very hard to say.

I see. I suppose this place forces anyone to hit the ground running.

Pardon?

Well, it can be a scramble to adapt, yes.

And who are you, then?

I've been here since February 14th. So about nine months minus a week or so. I'm trying to adapt, but I'd rather not stay if I can avoid it. I don't belong here.

None of us do. Have you made any headway?

I think I found the Core. A group of people did actually, but putting together an expedition has been harder then I expected. Some of the companies figured it out too, and they don't want us to have it.

Well, that may one day be possible. Depends on how my current goals work out.

I mourn nothing and no one. Mourning is full of regret, and I make it a rule never to regret any decision I've made. Nor do I much care about the date, except as a minor acknowledgement. Birthday celebrations are for children and adults who have no concept of priority.

Leaving, naturally, and taking as much technology as I can with me. Just a modicum of the materials here would enable me to have an incredible advantage, back home.

Of course, that's very distant. First I need to build a proper foundation, in order to get resources.

If you count your birthday as a year...

Would making a life really be considered giving in?

Both this world and my own seem to be on the same 12 months system of a year.

Depends on how deep into that life you get, doesn't it?

That's lucky. Some people's are different.

When you start to enjoy it, maybe?

It's when you buy into the sentimental aspects. Trying to find lifelong friends, building a family. That's when it's gotten too far.

You still celebrate birthdays? That's almost cute, Crocodile.

I acknowledged it, but it's hardly cause for celebration.

It only means you're one year closer to your demise. It'd be foolish to celebrate it, unless you're a death seeker. I'm guessing not.

Though I do wonder how death works in a place like this.

Apparently we come back. I'm not sure what they'd do for death of old age.
