I've noticed more new voices than usual over the network recently, a high frequency of arrivals. I do wonder if the pull's activity correlates to the same force that generated the earthquake- if this is a sign of further trouble, or a side effect. Still no official word or scientific report, only street speculations. But there must be someone ( Read more... )

It makes for difficult social arrangements...we didn't have nearly so many child-immigrants in Romdeau. But I suppose we make do and cooperate.

How old is your young friend, Oz?

Orphanage?

Ah. Then not nearly so young as Vincent implied.

Would you really have it any other way?

And I think you should take her, doctor.

Actually, I was going to take my cultural voucher and head over to the museum today, but as you can see I've been a bit distracted...

Oh no. I've- ...I'm not ready to take on something like full custodial responsibility for a girl with Nana's needs right now.

[...] How much more do you have to do? Any conclusive research on the earthquake and the core are probably locked away, so you wouldn't be spending much time on that.

Not ready, or not enough time?

I just keep finding myself sidetracked, little things, you know how it is. And you're right, I've about given up on finding any conclusive research on the earthquake, at least from my personal NV. Perhaps at a proper terminal.

[Mental note: After new apartment, next paycheck project is a nice state of the art desktop. Hi-res aquatic-themed background preferable.]

Not ready...and lack of time contributes to that.

...I'd like to help her if I can.

[ After a brief pause for thought, she clicks on the video with a small smile: ] My name's Carmine. I'm one of the two that helped bring her to the Center.

Ah, did you? I'm sorry I didn't have much time to speak with the two of you...thank you again, for bringing her in.

Carmine. You're one of the newer arrivals yourself, yes?

It's no problem. [ Awkward smile is go! ] I arrived here a few days ago, so I may not be the most fit custodian. But I'd like to help her, if it's possible in any way.

That's understandable, I certainly don't mean to press her upon anyone who isn't prepared for the responsibility, and it does take time to settle in here.

However, Nana would very much appreciate positive reinforcement and supportive people to speak to, I think.

And you've been quite the workaholic yourself lately, you know.

I've said nothing about your work tendencies, Daedalus. I'm just amused that so many people think you're a female.

Ah, you're at Skye Medical Center?

My name is Rebecca Chambers, I'm a new arrival myself and I've been helping out in the ER since I got here. Hopefully I'll be a permanent fixture, but they said they needed all the help they could get, right now.

It's nice to see there are so many others who are working to help, here.

I am.

They have been hiring heavily since the disaster...I'm glad, it's given a few of us fair opportunity to prove ourselves through a rough patch. Well I'll keep an eye out for you, I'm usually in the clinic after siren.

Has it been difficult? The animosity between newcomers and locals, I mean. I've been looking around a little and I've heard things, but I haven't seen anything solid, yet.

I'm sure I'll see you, though! I've been helping out pretty much whenever I can. I don't sleep much so I'd rather be useful, you know?

Well, the attitude is understated here at the hospital, but enough of a distinction that nearly every newcomer patient is swung my way, as if we're cases no other doctor is too eager to deal with.

Sleep does a person good, Miss Chambers, do be sure you're getting adequate rest.
