[ It's been a while since Yako last posted on the network, and there's a lot she could talk about: the nightmares, friends who have passed on, detective work, how glad she is to be back in her own body. Instead, she's holding up a pumpkin to the camera, looking a little too cheerful. ]You know, I've never carved one of these before. Halloween isn't ( Read more... )

I'm in! I can carve a mean pumpkin, Yako - just watch me!

Really? I guess I'll have to ask you to teach me, then!

Oh, and happy birthday! [ She hasn't forgotten, because she's a good friend like that. ] What time should I come over, again?

Sure! It's real easy once you get the hang of it.

And thanks! [He grins. SUCH A GOOD FRIEND.] The party starts at 1 PM.

[ Teasing, just a little: ] If you're that good already, maybe we should disqualify you from the contest. It might be unfair to the competition, you know?

I might be a little late since I'm coming from work, but I'll definitely drop by. What do you want for a birthday present?

[haha, it amazes her the normal things that happen here, even if this place is anything but normal. Either way, the whole even sounds like a lot of fun... she waffles about if she'll reply or not (since she doesn't really know this woman) but she finally speaks up]

That sounds like a lot of fun.

[ everyone has their ways of coping. Yako perks up a little at hearing an unfamiliar voice, and her voice is warm when she replies. ]

I think it will be, if we can get enough people interested!

I'll admit though, I don't know the first thing about carving a pumpkin. I've seen what a finished one looks like, but I'd assume it's a lot harder than it seems.

I'm pretty sure a lot of us are going to be beginners at this, so don't feel too bad about not knowing how. Besides, part of the fun is learning something new!

[Shizuo is staring at the pumpkin. Is it one of the ones he told her how to get?]

How... do you carve them?

[ That it is! One of the smaller ones, though-- this one is a little smaller than her head. ]

Well, some people use a kitchen knife, but I heard that can be pretty dangerous. [ She looks down at it thoughtfully. ] With the right tools, you can turn a pumpkin into whatever you want.

[Shizuo isn't too worried about whether something is dangerous or not. Even if he cuts himself, it's not a huge deal. (And if he gets some blood on the pumpkin that just makes it more scary, right?)]

Not sure if I'd be good at it, but... [Maybe he's a little interested, just because he's never tried it before.]

[ Even if he doesn't outright say it, Yako can guess that he's considering it. She grins, leaning forward. ]

You'll never know until you give it a shot, right? Besides, it's always fun to learn something new.

Careful with that.

[Hey guess who probably has a fuckton of ghost stories, Yako?]

[ She grins, but there's something a little worn and tired in her gaze. ]

I'm always careful. [ Pause. ] You should come. I'm going to use the pulp to make desserts.

[He notices, but doesn't say anything.

It's been days since his own nightmare. He prays she didn't see it.]

When you put it like that, I'm not sure I could say no.

[ You should know by now you're not that lucky, Naoya. But Yako knows better than to talk about it on the network.

Lightly: ] I thought that might get your interest.

[ Grinning, now: ] So, what are your plans for Halloween?

I think this is a grand idea! I have to work, but maybe I can talk Kuro-sama into taking Sakura-chan Saturday. Would you like me to whip up some spiced pumpkin juice for your participants on Saturday?

[A beat and then a grin.]

Been a while, Miss Yako. I hope you've been well?

[ Oooh, pumpkin juice. ] That sounds delicious, Mr. Fai. I'd really appreciate it if you could, even if you can't drop by. It'll be good to see Sakura again.

[ Though... ] Who's "Kuro-sama"?

I've been busy, but it's all right. How's the cafe doing?

Huh? Oh! [Insert sheepish laugh here all right.] Kuro-sama is one of my traveling companions. He arrived awhile back - just before the earthquakes.

The Cat's Eye is doing alright - food and liquor prices aren't helping but we're doing well enough. And while I'm glad to hear you're doing well... I hope you're not over-working yourself!

I see. I've been so busy I haven't had the chance to meet everyone who's come to the city recently. [ Wry smile. ]

I'm fine. I don't have to do anything nearly as challenging as running a business on my own, after all. I'll make sure that I drop by the Cat's Eye one of these days.
