[ It's been a while since Yako last posted on the network, and there's a lot she could talk about: the nightmares, friends who have passed on, detective work, how glad she is to be back in her own body. Instead, she's holding up a pumpkin to the camera, looking a little too cheerful. ]You know, I've never carved one of these before. Halloween isn't ( Read more... )

[Shizuo is staring at the pumpkin. Is it one of the ones he told her how to get?]

How... do you carve them?

[ That it is! One of the smaller ones, though-- this one is a little smaller than her head. ]

Well, some people use a kitchen knife, but I heard that can be pretty dangerous. [ She looks down at it thoughtfully. ] With the right tools, you can turn a pumpkin into whatever you want.

[Shizuo isn't too worried about whether something is dangerous or not. Even if he cuts himself, it's not a huge deal. (And if he gets some blood on the pumpkin that just makes it more scary, right?)]

Not sure if I'd be good at it, but... [Maybe he's a little interested, just because he's never tried it before.]

[ Even if he doesn't outright say it, Yako can guess that he's considering it. She grins, leaning forward. ]

You'll never know until you give it a shot, right? Besides, it's always fun to learn something new.

That's true... [He shouldn't be so curious about something meant for children, but if Yako is doing it then... that means he's allowed to too, right? She's only a few years younger than him.]

I guess I'll think about it.

Well, even if you decide not to come, how about doing something else for Halloween? There's all kinds of stuff going on. [ She doesn't mean to bully him into something if he really doesn't want it, but she suspects he's more interested than he's willing to admit, so she thinks she can get away with pushing a little more. ]

It's the first time I've ever really gotten a chance to celebrate it like this, so I want to try everything.

Yeah, all these holidays are pretty strange. [He's heard about them before, but living in Japan all his life means that his time here in the Port has been his only chance to experience a lot of it.]

What else is there to do?

Well, there's a masquerade being held a the Lux on Saturday... [ Her gaze flicks off-screen as she apparently squints at a list of some kind. ] ... a couple of concerts, haunted houses, and something called a hayride!

[ Which... she has no idea what it is, but it doesn't sound too creepy or dangerous, so why not? ]

I'm probably too old to do the trick or treating, but I can at least wear a costume.

[Shizuo isn't much of a fan of clubs or concerts, so that's out. If he went into a haunted house he'd probably end up tearing it down by accident, so he's going to pass on that too. But what's a hayride? It doesn't sound like Yako knows either.]

...That's a lot to keep track of. What would you dress as?

I was planning on going as a witch! It's a pretty simple outfit, and it'll be easier to move around in...

What about you?

There's a costume for just about everything. If you're having trouble, I could help you pick one out!

[Should he dress up? Maybe it's best if he does. It seems to be the tradition here, and it would count as doing something new, which is appealing in its own way.]

... Like what?

It'll probably be easiest to stick to something traditional. [ She pauses, considering. ] You know, the usual monsters: Frankenstein, vampires, ghosts... werewolves.

[ Ding. ] Hey, that's an idea! Why don't you go as a werewolf?

...A werewolf? [He has to wonder why she fixated on that specifically, although he has to admit he can see the resemblance. He's pretty sure he's been called a rabid dog in the past.]

I think it would be pretty cute! [ Though that's not exactly a ringing endorsement for the costume, so she hastens to add: ] And it wouldn't be hard to put together, right? You'd just need the ears and the tail, and maybe the gloves.
