☼ 002 - [video]

[Axel's at his desk at Xino Mao, apparently on his lunch break since he's eating a bowl of noodles. He twists a tangle of the curly ramen around a pair of chopsticks and grins at the feed before lifting the chopsticks in something like a toast.]

Man oh man, this place really knows how to keep people on their toes, don't you think? I mean, you ( Read more... )

You're welcome.

[Yes. Yes, that is snark. But he truly does "appreciate" that Axel is saying thank you in his own, roundabout way.]

[A chuckle--he can't quite help himself.] The card was a nice touch--you always did have such impeccable penmanship.

If you're not going to say anything more on it, then I don't see a reason as to why we're speaking.

[Sorry, Axel, he's not going to play games over something so important.]

[There's a beat of silence, and Saïx may not a faint edge of exasperation in Axel's tone.] I'm not sure what more you expect me to say. [A bowl of noodles doesn't exactly make up for all that time they spent completely misunderstanding one another, appreciated though the gesture may be.

[The timing can't be coincidental, though; he knows you must have seen the dream and connected the dots.]

I figure you saw everything that needed to be said anyway.

[ Heeeey, another instant-noodles bro? He doesn't feel so alone in this now. Although this feels like a lunch meet, what with Kotetsu shovelling down fried rice on his own video feed. ]

Now you mention it, food's a great place to start! Whenever I head home to see family mom's always cooking Japanese meals like you can't get in the city. Reminds me of being in high school. [ Waving his spoon; ] You know what's nostalgic? Cassette tapes, vinyl records, using a wooden abacus!

[Well hello there, bearded one! Welcome to lunch hour!]

Food is always a great place to start. Food brings people together, after all. [He nods wisely and clicks his chopsticks together--a similar motion to the waving of the spoon.] Oho, records! I know about those--they play music, right? I think I saw some in London once.

Exactly, yeah! I'm impressed you know! Not many people know about them or play them anymore these days. Or they're collectors' items... [ A sad sigh, then a shrug, taking another mouthful of rice. ] What does spicy ramen remind you of, then?

Well, I've never used one, just seen 'em. [How do you explain that you've traveled to worlds out of time? Telling someone you've actually been to 1960's London when you wouldn't even pass for 30 just doesn't go over well.

[He takes another bite of noodles and grins, though the usual sharpness of the expression is a bit diffused.]

I used to get noodles with an old friend back home. He dared me to try the really spicy kind once--thought I wouldn't be able to handle it. Wound up becoming my usual.

[The pirate is also in her office, leaning back and rubbing her neck as she looked at a laptop style NV.]

I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried cashing in on these nightmares soon. [She was also on a break, though unlike him she wasn't enjoying lunch. The lack of sleep was starting to get to her.]

And now I wonder if the owner of the nightmare could sue them for that...?

They would have to be willing to admit they were the original owner, I would think. As well as have proof to it. Loopholes would be easy to find, I'm sure. [she looks rather annoyed at that actually. Most of her friends have had dreams out there. She's scared her nightmares will be there as well]

I guess that's true. Can't imagine anybody wanting to claim any of these as their own, anyway. [He's sure not piping up.] Though maybe since we've all already been subjected to them in dream form the movies would flop anyway: we'd already know how they end.

You're taking these dreams awfully well.

[And man, those noodles look good. He's hungry now, and there aren't any doughnuts left in the break room. SOB.]

Hey, it's easier to laugh about the bad stuff than to gripe. Neither will change anything, but at least one'll make you 'feel' a little better.

[He gives Asch a curious look.]

How fares the hunt?

Hn...

[He's used to being angry about... pretty much everything. It makes him feel better, though it probably does nothing for his blood pressure.]

I wish it could be better, but we still haven't heard from forensics yet.

Forensics... that's ah... [He snaps his fingers, thinking.] Oh, that's the study of all The Little Details, right? Like evidence left at the scene of the crime and so on, yah?

[Just wait 'til he discovers Crime Dramas on TV. He'll be hooked on Law & Order I can just tell. All those little details he'll just delight in trying to assemble to figure out whodunit before the actors do...]

Always, Stripes; don't you ever miss the good old days? You know, chasing whippersnappers around the castle and booting them out on their asses with the other guards?

[ No, he doesn't. Mostly because he's been doing the same thing, just in a somewhat altered capacity. The fact that he actually found life in Radiant Garden to be tedious and restricting also has something to do with it.

Not that he'll say so. ]

Sure, I do, Flamesilocks.

[ But. ]

It's healthy to dwell.
