A woman I spoke to when I first arrived said that some natives also developed powers. We considered that it might be something in the water or soil. Some type of mutagen or chemical.

A mutagen would take time to work on a Newcomer. I think it's the Core itself.

More natives than newcomers, but not all. Those born here in recent years tend to be more of a certainity.

It seems an odd thing for a machine like that to do. To grant abilities like some kind of genie.

One. I can't say. I haven't really tested what it is that I can do. I fear that since most of the other questions are connected to one, I can't really help you at all.

Of course, I do believe that perhaps it is a dormant ability, but I am fine to be without one. And if I do awaken, it will be because of the will of someone other than myself.

If I had an assumption, I suppose it would be ... to look into people's souls.

1. What is/are your ability(ies)? I used to be able to talk to animals but that disappeared when the Core went crazy. Now I have no idea.
2. Did you have your abilities upon entering Siren's Port? Nope.
---If not, how did you acquire these powers? Dunno, one day I could just understand what a couple of stay cats in an alley were saying and it blew up from there.
3. Do you like having your abilities? They were okay. I made friends with a chipmunk because of them.
4. When, if ever, do you use these abilities? All the time since I couldn't exactly control it.
5. Would you prefer another ability? Uh, duh. My old one is gone.
---If so, what would you prefer? Dunno. Laser vision would be pretty epic.

If your abilities have not awakened yet, do you think you have a dormant or passive ability, or do you believe yourself without one? I'd better have one!
Do you think you will eventually "awaken"? I guess they will sometime.
Do you have your own assumptions about whatever they might be? Still going with laser vision.

No. Shinigami manipulate their own spiritual energy; they can't affect the energy outside of them. They also purify corrupt souls, not destroy them.
