I'm dumbfounded you were given such an argument. Is she ignorant to the fact that a patient can refuse care at his/her discretion?

Obviously not too many of their patients refuse care! I had to remind her that this is MY choice...but maybe if another patient refuses she will remember that it is THEIR decision to make!

I used to work in a hospital, it's usually the nurses who cause problems, not the doctors.

when i had my ectopic, i actually found the opposite to be true. the nurses were the most caring and the doctor was completely clueless.

anyway, sounds like you're as prepared as you can get. I'm excited!

what I mean by 'cause problems' was that when a patient would refuse some sort of treatment, they were the ones to make a big fuss. The doc would *usually* just give in, remembering that the patient has rights. But yes, on the other hand, doctors can be careless while nurses typically have a nurturing attitude. This is mostly true with elderly patients though, nurses seem to think that because they are old they don't know what is best for them.

Of course, this was a small-town hospital and I'm sure they weren't used to people advocating for themselves.
