TSR are at it again

So, GoS has been taken offline. Why? Someone at TSR wrote to their server, GoDaddy, and told them that GoS was redistributing copyrighted content. As per their procedures, GoDaddy has taken the site down for now. This kind of sucks for everyone at GoS, and yet again shows that those at TSR really have their heads firmly up their asses ( Read more... )

Man, I'm glad I finally found this. I've been googling like crazy to figure out what was up.

I wish we could get some people from all these sites together in real life and figure this out proper. Online shit just turns into "he said/she said" and a whole lot of butthurt real quick. Communication with text is so... volatile. Sigh...

I actually was reading the thread on GoS about the letter Thomas had sent to GoDaddy as GoDaddy was taking the site down. However, as much as I'm appalled by the whole thing - they have no legal leg to stand on since you can't claim copyright on custom content going by the game's ToS in the first place, so GoDaddy really should have done some research, seriously - I can't say I'm surprised. It was only a matter of time before they went after GoS, since it's one of the biggest freesites out there. To them, it was probably the "best" big target to try for - they won't be able to make a dent on Pescado, so MATY and PMBD are out by default and if the repercussions from going after GoS are going to be bad, just imagine if they'd tried to take down MTS ( ... )

I'm just glad I'd read the threat topic on GoS, perhaps a couple of hours before the site went down. Now I can focus on just being pissed instead of pissed and panicked over what happened ( ... )

I don't think their "intelligence" had anything to do with it...just that it took this long for them to get this desperate, but you're probably right about the drop off in interest in TS3. I've read an awful lot of comments on the S3 forum that seem to indicate people are just getting fed up generally with the crap stemming from the basic unplayability of the game with all the patches. EA still doesn't get it, and it looks like they're just pushing people away with their silence on the problems with the game itself.
There comes a time when you just give up on a game when it just won't work the way you envisioned it, and it's just too much bother to try.
TS2 is the known safe quantity, and now more popular. The downloads are just as much in demand as they ever were, if not more so.
But that does not justify in any way the actions of asshattery that Thomas & crew have been doing. It's inexcusable and indefensible on any level.

I just thought I'd drop by to pass on the message that fittingly the GoS sims 2 theme for May is going to be the Apocalypse.

The forum is not back up yet, we're working on it, but in the meantime we thought that people might like to start thinking about it/making stuff with the extra free time that having no forum has left them.
