it's a vicious circle

Before diving into the posts of the last two days (why do you people have lives?), I have some things I'd like to say. *clears throat*

- French literature. Downright failure. I deprived myself of sleep and forced myself to endless hours of French movies, websites, books, podcasts, music etc. for two months and the result was hearing the teacher ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear about your exams not going well. There is only one solution for the French: from now on, we should only communicate in French so you can practice! (Kidding, unless you think it would help you and in that case let's go for it).

I do think it would help, and I was trying to come up with something in French just now and my mind went blank, which is exactly mon problème! J'ai appris à penser en anglais, mais le français échappe mon contrôle. Une fois que je commence, c'est plus facile traduire ceux que je veux dire entre l'anglais et le français, au lieu de l'italien.

I have no clue how I just did that.

Question: comment dit-on 'keyboard'?

I think I just drained myself replying to Laura with a little bit of French. And tricky doesn't even begin to describe it!

Thing is, I like French. I actually think it's a very classy language, and the literature is not so bad either (can't stand Maupassant, but whatever). I want to be a teacher myself, English teacher of course because God forbid I should ruin someone's life with my French.

Thank you, by the way, je promets j'utiliserai le français la prochaine fois. Mmm... je dois trouver des icons françaises... :)

but the language needed to express my thoughts just wasn't there.

Yeah I'm having a similar issue. It's frustrating.

why do you people have lives?

We don't. If we did, there wouldn't be so many posts :P

Spanish? or Chinese?

I was specifically talking about you, and I haven't got round to your 'telephone call' yet! How are things? It was heartbreaking to read the 'I miss you' bit...

Spanish? or Chinese?

LOL. I'm at the very beginning of learning Chinese. I can't write much more than "My name is Lara and I live in New Jersey. Where do you live?"

So I was talking about Spanish :P I'm taking the last part of the last level - but I took the previous class 3/4 years ago. So I'm just horribly, terribly... out of synch. It's like I know what I'm doing... in theory. In actual use, I'm quite dysfunctional. I'm still in the class - but I'm still questioning whether or not this was actually a good idea.

And believe me, I really DONT have a life. I've been doing nothing but sitting at home and reading fanfiction, listening to music, playing guitar, making videos, and watching TV shows ALL WEEK. Last I left the house was Monday to go to school. It's quite pathetic. I just make it sound exciting in my journal :P

Things with my boyfriend... well, on a small scale, things have been mostly resolved. On a larger scale, they most definitely have not. I'll write about it a little later I think.

Because of how you feel, or because of what the teacher said back in your first class?

Ah, but right now you're snowed in so it's a special occurrence that you're stuck in your house, isn't it? :) I'll be waiting to hear about the larger scale (or should I be fearing it?).

Whatever. I am past caring.

Lol. (Idk why that made me chuckle. Perhaps it was your tone that I could relate to? XD) Take it all in stride, dear. <3

That professor sounds really cool. Even if it doesn't matter, I still think that essay was AWESOME. :)

*sigh* Oh, fandom. I love it too. :D

Dark humour in times of difficulty. :P

Awww, thank you (again)! It's all due to this amazing community of fans that I managed to find the guts and actually ask to do something like that. He is too cool for my uni, I don't know how they convinced him to ditch Harvard for them.

I suppose so, lol.

This fandom is amazing. It really gives inspiration to think about characters and human nature. He's from Harvard? Woahhhh! 8D

His life is one amazing adventure... he started off in the navy, by 22 he was studying English in Venice though and the following year, he went to Oxford and graduated there. And then, as he puts it, Harvard called him; because you don't go there, you get invited. :D

I wanted to ask him if he had a son/grandson/nephew he could introduce me to. :P
