Mary and Matthew's Wedding...

So, as usual I have lots of ideas as to what I want to happen in series 3 of Downton Abbey - in terms of Mary and Matthew anyway! So here's my random musings about why I think it should happen and what I want to actually happen - in the first episode anyway!

I get the quiet wedding for them, but I just really want them to have a proper wedding - a proper big white wedding like Mary's probably been dreaming of since she was a little girl. And if anything, a big wedding might be just the thing to drown out any scandal!

But really - seeing their wedding, however big or small, is the main thing - and it being in episode 1!

Yeah, whilst I want a big wedding, as long as we get one, and in the first episode, I'll be happy!

Yeah, I sort of felt sorry for Lavinia really. Even though I do believe Matthew loved her, his heart already belonged to Mary and there was nothing anyone could do about that. But yeah, I love all those looks between Mary and Matthew in the first episode and I think it's one of my favourites in series 2.

I'm glad you liked the videos I made for each episode. After watching the first episode, I was just itching to make a video and put all those amazing looks into a fanvideo. Then, as I was flicking through my mp3 player, I remembered that tune and thought how perfect it would be.

Of course, then I got carried away and set myself the very difficult challenge of a video for each episode. It was really difficult to do, but I'm glad you've enjoyed watching them - hope your dvds come soon though!

Agree with all this except baby girl rather than boy - WWII, let's think ahead, people! A boy any time after 1926...!

Yeah, I get that, but then I can imagine Mary and Matthew being disappointed (and facing lots of pressure) if they don't have a baby boy soon. 6 years away is a long time for them to feel that pressure for.

And if Downton Abbey doesn't continue up to the war, we can live in blissful happiness that any and all of their kids live through the war!

I want a wedding too! (of course). I don't think it will be in the season opener. If spoilers are correct, the episode is supposed to be in January and since the CD ended in January, I can't see them getting a big wedding done in such a short time. And I want a big wedding for them

I've not heard any series 3 spoilers, so no idea when the first episode will start.

I just think a big wedding will just have so much more impact at the start of the series, and be so much more likely to bring in the viewers. Bid series just won't be the same IMO. And I'm not sure what they could do with Mary/Matthew in the interim - preparing for their wedding isn't going to take up too much screen time or create too much drama - not for several episodes.

Still, what really matters is that they do get married, and early on in the series!

The thing is, though, S3 is supposed to start fairly soon after the CS, if I am not mistaken, so if they wanted a huge wedding they would need some time to plan it, which would push the wedding date off a bit and thence make the wedding at a later episode (especially since we know there won't be any more huge time gaps).

I definitely want Sybil and Branson to show up at the wedding, as you mentioned, and provide lots of delicious comedy gold. It'd be nice to see them at A wedding even if it is not THEIR wedding (STILL RAGING!!!!).

I haven't heard any spoilers yet about when series 3 starts, other than it's soonish after the Chirstmas special. But in DA terms, who knows how long that'll be

I'd actaully like to see the series start off with them married (i know it wont, but eh) Mary setteling into married life, trying to manage a house, while Matthew is working and them figureing out what makes eachother click etc etc

Oh, I definitely want to see all that too - I just want to see their actual wedding first.
