Mary and Matthew's Wedding...
So, as usual I have lots of ideas as to what I want to happen in series 3 of Downton Abbey - in terms of Mary and Matthew anyway! So here's my random musings about why I think it should happen and what I want to actually happen - in the first episode anyway!

And I'm not sure it will take that long to plan a big wedding - it's not like they'll need to worry about booking a venue or a church. They have a live in cook and servants and, as they are not only rich, but powerful, I'm sure it'll be very easy for them to get things done quickly - if they want that.
The thing is, I just think it'd lose so much impact and drama if it was mid series - it needs to either be at the beginning or end to have the biggest effect. And I very much doubt it'll be at the end!
But really, what matters most is that we do see them get married - and pretty soonish in series 3!
As for nothing being meaningless, well, I did state about how that applies to Mary/Matthew at least. But tbh, I actually think fake Patrick wasn't meaningless. It showed how important becoming earl is now to Matthew and how his injuries are really making him feel so hopeless and inadquate. It shows how much the family has accepted that Matthew will be now and how much a part of the family he's become. It showed how much Mary cared for Matthew and how obvious it was becoming to everyone but Matthew. It also showed the effects of the war on people and how people were willing to take advantage of things and it gave Edith some more character development and storylines.
