I'm still waiting for a political ad featuring the Final Fantasy fanfare theme.

My RSS feeds never fail to inform and entertaining me on an almost daily basis. Today I came across some of the most amusing political news yet, not counting those "terrorist fist jabs".

When deciding how to best set the tone for a political ad one should always choose video game music, specifically from Medal of Honor European Assault, now that' ( Read more... )

You can still receive the certificate, just save it to your computer as a .pdf file, and you'll be able to print it at a later date. :)

Oh, I do have the certificate saved already. I probably won't print it out, but I might make it into a jpeg and display it online. I only mentioned the ink part so I could transition into my next topic. ;)

Rush Limbaugh has been using The Pretenders' My City Was Gone as his theme song for years and Chrissie Hind is quite pissed off about it--but apparently there isn't anything she can do about it as long as Limbaugh pays the licensing fees.

Which suggests to me that Mr. Lennertz can't do anything, either. And in Lennertz's case, he probably doesn't even get royalties.

The downside to selling creative works for a living, at least to a major employer. There really isn't anything a person can do, but it makes for an interesting story! ;)

Also keep in mind that under U.S. copyright law, what rights Mr. Lennertz actually has to his music depends on the circumstances under which he composed it. If he had composed the music on his own initiative and then sold it to the videogame company, then he'd still have most of the rights. The videogame company would only have the right to include it in their game. But if the company had commissioned him to compose the piece, then he never owned the rights in the first place.

The copyrights to work done for hire belong to the employer, not the creator of the content. Otherwise, nobody would be able to make a movie or a video game in the first place.

I know, but I just found it funny that he wished that the McCain campaign had also consulted him in the use of his works. Who would bother to take the time to do that if the company holding the rights gave you the green light?

Interesting. I've seen that McCain ad dozens of times now, but I had no idea the music was from Medal of Honor: European Assault. That's neat, though the composer definitely doesn't agree. Obama should use some of Metal Gear's music in his ads!

Glad to see Firefox 3 is immensely popular; it definitely deserves all of the downloads, from what I'm using. It's even better when someone gives you a list of recommendable Extensions. Thanks for that.

And I'm not surprised at SPTA giving us nothing. It's vintage SEPTA, really.

Same here! I didn't really notice the music much, but then again I dn't play Medal of Honor. And people said video games had no value to society. =p And how is the music in Metal Gear? I'm always up for good game music, even if I don't play the game.

I heard that a security hole was already found, but I'm sure Mozilla is working to patch that up. The browser is definitely many times better than the last one. And people fail forget that extensions are where Firefox really shines! And I'm glad I could recommend some good ones for you. :D

Ah, SEPTA...

Yeah, I haven't played it either, and I love the fact that video game music is getting recognition by more people. Metal Gear's music is pretty good, especially the cutscene music by composer Harry Gregson-Williams, who does a lot of movie soundtracks. Listen to the 'Metal Gear Solid: Main Theme' to get a taste of how the music is to see if you like it or not.

Man, that was fast, but it's a good thing Mozilla is reliable and not going to let it slide. Thanks again for the recommendations for the extensions. I agree that it's the best part of Firefox.

SEPTA will unfortunately never change. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a serious rate hike in the future. Unless there's one planned already...

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try to give them a listen when I can. And music is one of my favorite aspects of video games, it's come a long way from the NES era. :D

You're welcome about the extensions, every Firefox user should have a few. :D

I dunno about Septa. First they say they've seen an increase in ridership, so there's no cutbacks in service or hikes in price. I wonder how long it'll be before they decide to tap the increased ridership for more money? =p
