Pull apart some velcro and you hear a loud, rending sound.
Do it again, slowly this time. And look closely at the strip.
On one side is a tangle of thin fibres and on the other
are little hooks. When you pull them apart, the fibres
stretch taut, then, because they are totally entangled,
begin to tear the little hooks to come off.
