A perfectly-sized wada sitting snug in a fresh,
fluffy pav. Three chatnis: sweet, green and
dry red, which is the current trend. Wada pav
some years back, if you remember,
contained only dry red chatni.
This wada easily passed the acid test;
the cover was thin and delicate.
The bhaji, surprisingly, did not
contain anything green - neither green chillies
nor kadhi patta, not even kothimbir. Yet, it had an
interesting taste. And the wada was not
overpowered by very spicy chatnis, they only
enhanced the flavour.
Thanks to the junk food loving K.,
I tried out this wada pav that I had
often heard about. A non-descript
gaadi located not far from a famous wada pav stall,
it is always crowded nevertheless. You have to
wait in a small but eager queue to get your
wada pav. I shall definitely stop by again.
While on the topic of wada pav, the new chain outlets
of branded wada pavs offer very indifferent
fare. The wadas are bland and the freezing
and re-frying has funny effects on their texture.
The pav was dry and less-than-fresh when I tried it.
Chatni not great either. Quite disappointing, really.
