Trespass Sweetly Urged. Arthur worries that Alfred is just playing a cruel joke on him, but a simple wish changes his mind.

Arthur sat down on his bed, feeling stunned as the memory of his afternoon sank in. He blushed remembering the kiss during theater practice and the subsequent run for ice cream. He could still remember the way the other boy’s lips moved against his. Could remember vividly the taste of the ice cream in his cone and in Alfred’s mouth when they had kissed again on the way back. He felt warm remembering the smile Alfred had given him when he waved goodbye at the door to the dormitories. Arthur had only been able to wave dumbly back at him and then quickly retreat to his room. He had been surprised when he had seen his own face in the mirror. He touched his face, wanting to know if the smile on it was real.
He flopped down on his bed feeling warm and fuzzy over the fact that the boy he had been crushing on finally acknowledged him. He lay there thinking about the other boy’s smile and anxiety began to set in. What if it was a cruel joke? After all, Alfred was popular, handsome and good at sports. Would someone put him up to something like this? Arthur immediately answered his own question, yes, there were probably people at this school that would bully him like that. But would Alfred? Could he be legitimately interested in someone as plain as him? He stared at the ceiling and tried to will away the panicky feeling in his stomach. Alfred was a kind person, even when he was being obnoxious and pushy about it. Arthur’s crush on him had not stemmed just from his good looks, it came from how he was friendly with everyone for the most part. It was a quality that Arthur admired, and certainly did not possess himself. But, would he be cruel to him? Arthur lay there realizing he really didn’t know the person that held his affections that well.
Arthur felt as though the walls of his bedroom were closing in on him, making it hard to breathe. Normally this was his sanctuary, the place he could escape to when Francis tried to grope him or Gilbert thought it would be funny to steal his textbooks. In this moment, his sanctuary was anything but comforting, it felt nothing but lonely. He needed to get out of here. He sat up and pulled his shoes on and left the room heading for the fire escape.
He climbed up the metal railing as quietly as possible, not wanting to disturb anyone else or bring any attention to his presence. They had gotten back to the school a little late and had already been reprimanded for being away from school after hours. Climbing up onto the roof after everyone was supposed to be in their rooms for the night was definitely off limits. He would be in detention for sure if he was caught.
The summer night still held quite a bit of warmth and the frogs and crickets sang a soft accompaniment to the myriad of stars that were overhead. Since the school was in the country it was easy to see the stars, and he loved watching them. They were great reminders that in the vast scheme of things, his problems were not the end of the world. He settled down on the roof, lying on his back against the tiles. The soft breeze ruffled his hair, and he silently told himself the stories in the stars that he had learned as a child. It was peaceful, yet the worries still nagged at his mind.
What if Alfred was off with his friends having a good laugh at his expense at this very moment? Would he ever be able to look any of them in the eye again? Would he have to transfer schools because he couldn’t stand the humiliation? Could Alfred really be a jerk like that? Was he worrying about this too much? Probably. No matter what he told himself the butterflies would not go away.
He was starting to drift off to sleep when he heard the slight creaking of the fire escape, was someone else coming up? He immediately scrambled off trying to find a hiding spot on the sparse roof in case it was a teacher coming to scold him. Arthur didn’t particularly want to be seen by a fellow student either so he hid himself behind the benches of flower pots. He was actually perched behind a pot he had planted himself as part of a garden project. He sat there amidst the sweet smelling flowers and listened to the footsteps on the metal staircase grow closer. He peered between the leaves to see a familiar hair style come into view as its owner hopped up on the roof. Arthur’s heart hammered in his chest at the sight and he could feel a blush creeping up on his cheeks just at the mere sight of his new... what? Were they boyfriends now? He didn’t know, and was worried about the answer.
He watched as Alfred settled himself down on the roof near where he had been leaning earlier. His blush got deeper as Alfred smiled up at the stars, just like he had smiled at him earlier.
“Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight...” he began to say, and Arthur held his breath in order to listen, “I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight...”
Arthur stayed silent wondering what it would be. In his eyes the other boy always seemed to be on top, what could he possibly have to wish for?
“...let things work out between me and Arthur. I don’t want it to be like the other people I’ve dated, I really like him. So, please?” Alfred finished, sighing and leaning back. Arthur felt like his face was going to burst into flames with the flush on his face. He was feeling kind of foolish for worrying the way he had. Sure, Alfred would pull pranks from time to time but nothing that would hurt someone else emotionally. He leaned onto the bench, feeling blissfully happy at this turn of events. He didn’t realize that the bench was not all that sturdy and he fell forward with a crash.
Alfred jumped and looked at him, his eyes wide with surprise. They both stared at each other awkwardly, a flush now forming on Alfred’s face as well.
“Arthur?”
“Ah... Alfred, funny meeting you up here!” he said, trying to cover up his embarrassment at having been caught eavesdropping.
“Uh... did you hear what I just said?” Alfred flushed more, already knowing the answer. Arthur decided not to respond, he brushed the dirt off his uniform and walked over to him. He pulled the taller boy down and kissed him.
“Look like the star granted your wish.” he said as he pulled away.
Alfred flushed even more darkly.
It was Arthur’s turn to grin, although it ended up looking more like a satisfied smirk.
