I dragged hubby to see Colin's In Bruges over the weekend...erm...not sure what to say, really. I would compare it to Resevoir Dogs, thematically and violence-wise, so if that's not your cuppa then I recommend you step away. Like with SO many movies, I was really really loving this for about a half to two thirds of the way through--there's great ( Read more... )

Hehe, another one hooked by Nikolaj's prettiness! The series is doing okay in the ratings, but since it's a mid-season replacement, I'm not holding out hopes that they'll keep it. Stupid FOX. I wish NA had been on NBC instead. At least they don't have as many hits and can afford to keep more shows that have lower ratings. *le sigh*

Yeah, FOX is kinda notorious for killing its series with no rhyme or reason. I've been PO'd at them many times. I haven't seen anything *yet* about cancellations, but who knows.

I read an article not too long ago that said that TV ratings were down across the board for new shows, because everyone's afraid to get invested in something that will then get cancelled just when they're getting into it. It would be nice if those stupid TV execs would see how they're screwing themselves with this "win the ratings in one episode or die!" mentality. *sighs with you*

The main thing about NA that depresses me is that these episodes were filmed awhile ago as far as I know. They've already delayed airing it for at least a season (or two?), so they're probably just burning off episodes at this stage. =( Not sure if they'll renew it. Looks like they'd rather stick with Terminator right now.

Argh! I hadn't realized that. I hate that whole "burning episodes" idea although I know the writer's strike influenced those types of decisions this time around. But it's like "oh yes, please get hooked on this show that we have no intention of pursuing". Grrr!

I want more Nikolaj! *cries*

I'm usuing my PO'd Leggy icon to show how I feel...lol...

Oh my... you never read Hary Potter?
I must say though - you saying that once you actually read them makes you get the hype fills me with an air of satisfaction. Hehe there are just too many people who keep telling me the books stink with only having seen the movies.

Ok to be honest I don't get the hype either - I just really really enjoy reading them. And you're so right it transports you back to a very different form of reading. Something adult books don't give you... The last book, I read 12 hours straight the first day and night - and the last 80 pages after I woke up on my Harry Potter pillow.
What a cruel joke - waiting for a book for two years and then just getting a day's worth of enjoyment from it ;)

Oh and I looove New Amsterdam too. Such a hottie :)

No, I've never read them! But I'm working to change that. My sis-in-law is a teacher and she got a set of the first five books for either a super deal or for free from ordering so many books for her classes. She asked me if I was interested and I said sure, why not! So, you can thank her for getting me started on them...hee ( ... )

Thanks for your thoughts on In Bruges. It was my impression also that it might only be good for the joy of watching Colin and Brendan.

Nikolaj is hawt. ♥

I rolled my eyes at the HP hype, too, but eventually read the first book because I was curious. I *love* the books. As they progress, they get darker and darker, but the things you love about the first 3 are still there. I'm not a part of the fandom online, so I'm not sure what it's like.

I actually have liked the movies. Nothing could ever really compare with the books {it's SO hard to believe that they were the first books Rowling ever wrote!!}, BUT I think the movies managed to capture the essence. They were actually pretty faithful to the books - although admittedly, everyone has a favorite part of the books that didn't make it in.

There was a lot of great humor and insanity in In Bruges, but you're right, the strongest draw is these two--and Ralph, actually, in a secondary capacity. I've seen Brendan in a lot of "crazy" roles, so it was nice to see him do something much more subtle (even though the film wasn't always subtle) here ( ... )

I looooove New Amsterdam and Eli Stone. I'm so sick of the typical cop and lawyer shows out there that these two are like a breath of fresh air...the same thing goes for why I'm so enamored and in absolute, total, worshipping love with Pushing Daisies. We need more original, quirky, wonderful, feel good shows on tv, not more reality crap.

Oh, and yes, Nikolaj...SOOOO hawt! And that's hawt with an 'aw' mind you *snerk*

Aren't the HP books addicting??? I didn't join the party until later (maybe around the time book 4 came out) but I just devoured the things. When children's books are well-written they're absolutely amazing.

I haven't seen Pushing Daisies yet...I think it's on when I've been watching something else. I agree that it's nice to have some quirky shows, and I love that Eli Stone especially has such a positive and hopeful tone to it--I didn't realize how much I'd been missing that until I found myself grinning ear to ear during the episodes! :P

I was looooving New Amsterdam but tonight's epi put me off a little. I'm hoping next week's will be better.

And I agree that Nikolaj deserves the special "hawt" spelling...lol. And I want to see more of him!

I just finished Book 3 and am practically euphoric. I really liked the third film but felt a bit hazy on some of the plot points--the book really added so much and it resonated so much more knowing all the background of Harry's dad and Remus and Sirius. Just fabulous stuff. I'm going to keep looking for an adult book that's this magical! :)

I was dubious about New Amsterdam after the pilot, but the next two eps were a definite improvement. I think it's a very romantic show at heart, and I really like it. And yes, Nikolai C-W is lurvely. But Harry Potter...well, just not at all my thing. I stalled out about halfway through #4, and once I realized it had been sitting on my nightstand for 6 months without me picking it back up, I just returned it to my sister and gave up. Now I just watch the movies on cable to see what happened, and that's more than enough for me.

I was really liking New Amsterdam though I knew it was skirting the line between a little corny and a little crappy...hee...just like Highlander. I was very disappointed by tonight's episode...grr. I'm so tired of being 10 minutes into a show and thinking of the most annoying way the plot could go and guessing that that's what they're going to do--and then they do it. Hubby keeps looking at me and going, "What, are you a writer or something?" Heh. Maybe that's the problem. I'm too familiar with plot structure. :P ( ... )

LOL! I do the same thing with TV. I literally speak lines before the characters do. As for New Amsterdam, I was out last night, so I'll watch today and see what I think.

With HP, the third book was my favorite precisely because it was so dark. But #4 desperately needed an editor. I was just bored as it droned on and on shapelessly. But I'm clearly in a minority on that, so don't judge by me.
