I dragged hubby to see Colin's In Bruges over the weekend...erm...not sure what to say, really. I would compare it to Resevoir Dogs, thematically and violence-wise, so if that's not your cuppa then I recommend you step away. Like with SO many movies, I was really really loving this for about a half to two thirds of the way through--there's great ( Read more... )

There was a lot of great humor and insanity in In Bruges, but you're right, the strongest draw is these two--and Ralph, actually, in a secondary capacity. I've seen Brendan in a lot of "crazy" roles, so it was nice to see him do something much more subtle (even though the film wasn't always subtle) here.

I always thought Nikolaj was handsome, but seeing him in action now makes me understand the panting fangirliness my friends have about him...hee!

I'm glad you say that the good parts of the story are there even through the darker books. I know my mom was really disappointed with the later movies because she like the more whimsical, centered-on-friendship earlier ones. I wasn't as bothered because the stories are good, but I did miss a little bit of that lighter tone. I have been enjoying how much more humor is in the books than the films--especially the delightfully snarky stuff...hee!

I haven't dabbled in HP fandom and only see bits of it through my flist. Like any fandom, there's good and bad. I know there's an added level of nuttiness due to the whole underage issue, as well as the fact that many of the fandom kids are underage themselves. Kids mixing with adults in a fandom is always going to lead to some craziness! :P
