We had a four day prompt freeze this time because the mods needed to discuss some very important issues regarding the meme. There has been an air of unfriendliness and disrespect widespread on our meme for months now and it doesn’t promote an atmosphere of community

The thing is, this meme isn't a replacement for your personal journal. It's more like a community, and I don't see that the rant post is having a net positive benefit on this community.

Honestly if people see concrit as a personal attack and don't want it, then I think they'd be likely to simply ignore the rant post if it gets to be about them.

It was pointed out that with the frequency that the rant post fills up, it's been dominating this community -- it's one of the first things new people see -- and I don't think that's the direction we actually wish to go with the meme. The focus should be on prompts and fics.

Question for you - are you going to repeat this reply to other people who've made really long arguments against the decision, or just hope people are tracking this thread so that they can see it too?

Or are you hoping this reply is actually a little bit buried?

I'm behind you all the way mods. I too felt the way you have been feeling here for quite some time and yes I think this is about the prompts and fills, not the hate and sometimes rather racist hate that was in the Rant post...

We've kept the hate and trolling contained to one place by using the Rant Post. Getting rid of it means it'll bleed over into other parts of this comm, and make the entire thing a cesspool, rather than one specific area that people can avoid if they so choose.

The only thing I've ever done here is post prompts. I don't go into places like rant posts or chatter posts for the reasons the mods are talking about. I don't have that much hostility about ANYTHING, and if I did, I would not post it anonymously. Although really, we are ALL anonymous. A made up poster name means NOTHING.
However-maybe the easiest solution is to make this a LJ member only place to post, period. That way, if someone wants to go and be rude and show their manners, at least the other members will know who to avoid from now on.
And if they become harrassing, ban them from posting somehow. That's the only real solution. Otherwise, it will just continue in some form or fashion.

I know many flourishing kink memes with neither rant posts nor chatter posts. I'm surprised the rants posts have lasted as long as they have here, personally, not because of the tone but because they've become busier than the prompt posts and the prompts and fills are supposed to be the main purpose of the comm, not for people to have a place to rant (or just chat) constantly about everything under the sun.

Unfortunately, I agree with this. Maybe if the rant post were put off meme entirely (like in another anonmeme) that would work, but there's got to be some place for people to let off steam, or it will creep in.

What wasn't working was the rant meme turning into a chatter meme. Because then people are lured in to look at the chatter and get a face full of negativity -- which was what the place was there for, but you know, people forget.

There's already an anon meme where people can go to, sherlockbbcanon, people can rant about all this stuff there. Anything else can be deleted.

I don't agree: it doesn't have much traffic but it could become less of a joke, as you think, if people go there to rant or discuss. But whatever, do whatever pleases you.
