I ignore everything Kanye ever says because he is a wanker, but that's good to know, I guess. :D

My fellow intern yesterday was saying how she can't respect a woman who stays in a relationship like that - there's no excuse, they're just weak and stupid, etc.

Oh, did I mention I am a survivor of domestic violence? And have worked in the field for quite a while?

And we're counseling interns, supposedly keeping an open mind and being compassionate?

I tried to explain what it's like to be in a relationship like that - being told and feeling like you'll die old and alone if you leave them, etc. She sympathized, but still went on to say "Well, I guess I've always just been stronger than that."

Now, BTW, I do realize I was stupid to be in those relationships, but don't believe that makes me "weak" or stupid on the whole. Everyone makes mistakes and I dated some big ones.

Yesterday was not a good day for me.

I just kind of dropped it. Deaf ears and all.

Ugh ugh ugh ugh UGH. Is there someone higher up in the program you can report her to? Deaf ears are fine if you can handle it, but someone going into counseling does not need to be preaching that attitude to vulnerable victims.

Well, fortunately, we don't work with abused women. But we do work with some kids that have been severely abused and it doesn't really affect the kids she works with as she's good about keeping the bias out. Sadly, she's not the only counselor I've met who feels that way about battered women. I'm not sure what any higher ups could do since it's not necessarily an ethical concern due to the population we work with.

It was literally on EVERY channel last night: the "regular" news, and three different entertainment news shows ( ... )

Yep. And the pile-on that the media is giving it really pisses me off, because people like Faux are making this out to be just another celeb spat. One report indicated that she had a BITE taken out of her, and MTV is speculating whether this incident was "caused" by her giving Brown herpes. IT WAS CAUSED BY HIM TAKING IT INTO HIS NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD IDIOT HEAD TO BEAT THE FUCK OUT OF HER. NOTHING ELSE.

"And while Rihanna is the alleged victim in this scenario, it’s not the first time she’s made news in the last year."

What kind of sense is this sentence supposed to make, Fox News? Crazy sense? Non-sense? Sensesque™, with Artificial Sense-like Flavor?

Apparently because it's the gossip column, it's totally awesome to treat an "alleged victim" like she might be lying because she accused her manager of stealing from her, or whatever. SHUT UP, FAUX NEWS.

Although FAUX NEWS, NOW WITH SENSESQUE (TM) actually sounds kind of awesome and I want truth in advertising language that makes them bill themselves that way now.

It's Faux, what did you expect? They led off their gossip column with this without even an empty word of support for someone who got the living shit beaten out of her.

This is one of those things where if I'm reading news articles on I disable comments, because I just don't need to hear average joe mouthbreather being incapable to giving up his privilege for five fucking seconds.

It's also a touchy incident for me on a personal level because I've heard all of the justifications before from 'friends' and even people in positions of power over both myself and my abuser who did nothing to stop him.

Jay Z is all kinds of awesome.

Argh and also ugh and also GO JAY-Z.

I'm enough of an idealist to hope that this will start some kind of public dialogue about how unacceptable defending abusers is, and cynical enough to be pretty sure it's just more of the same.

Pretty much both in my experience. It went from Something We Don't Talk About to Something I'm Damn Well Gonna Talk About Because I Have to to Something We Don't Talk About Anymore Because You're an Enabling Douche about my own abuse at first, and then just all abuse ("You're just bitter because..." Well. YEAH. Ass.)

With the few people for whom we can discuss as a broad social ill and not just a problem stemming from my own deep piles of shit, real dialogue DOES happen. But alas, they're never the ones enabling abusers in the first place.

Also, the fact that a facebook group defending CB exists but none for Rihanna. Well.
