Cool Stuff; Olympics, ladies free skate

Feb 26, 2010 23:25

OMG! Mini-Band of Brothers reunion at the premiere for The Pacific (1, 2, 3)!!!

BSG's Grace Park is joining Alex O'Loughlin and Daniel Dae Kim in the remake of Hawaii Five-O.

Monsters Inc. sequel? PLEASE NO. It ended at the perfect moment.

I caught some of the NAACP Image Awards, and both Chiwetel Ejiofor and Idris Elba were there! Hill Harper and Anika Noni Rose hosted, too. ♥

Ladies Figure Skating: Free Skate!

First up, Rachael Flatt! Like Johnny Weir, I think she was underscored! ::frowns:: She doesn't have the grace of Kim Yu-Na or Mirai Nagasu, but her jumps were solid. Whatever, judges, whatever. I still think you're adorable, Rachael.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Miki Ando, was scored very generously. Too generously, IMO. Once I heard music from HBO's ROME and Loreena McKennitt, I was hoping for an inspired performance, but for the most part, she was just going through the motions, landing jumps but not wowing anyone with her style. I shouldn't have been surprised because I've never found her an engaging skater, but geez, it's the Olympics! If there was ever a reason to turn your dials up to 11, that would be it.

I don't think she should have hopped over Flatt. What do you think, Johnny?

I knew you'd agree with me.

OMG, was Mirai Nagasu fantastic or what? She was FEARLESS! If Adam Rippon is the future of American men's skating, Mirai is the one to keep an eye on for the ladies. She's got it all--grace, athleticism, charm, adorableness. Watch out, Sochi! Mirai is on her way!

Neither Mirai nor Frank were expecting her to be catapulted up to fourth place.

Here was my response:

Aww, Joannie Rochette. It wasn't a perfect performance, but she tried so hard and I know she did her mom proud.

Luckily, she was far enough ahead of Mirai after the short program that she could hold on for the bronze.

I love this picture. :-D

Oh my, Mao Asada. While she did tone down her costume for the short program, there were no alterations on this costume, and even though I love Rachmaninoff in general, this particular song gives me a headache. The problem with Asada's costumes this season is that they're trying to do a number of things at once. Keep it simple, I say! They just distract me from her skating. Interestingly enough, I heard Johnny Weir say on Universal Sports today that it's actually Mao's coach that heavily influences the costumes, to which I can only say, "POOR MAO."

Even though Mao completed two triple axels, the most in one program at the Olympics ever, the third triple axel from one of her combinations was downgraded, she had a problem with another landing, and her skate picked the ice, killing her momentum into another jump and forcing her to single it. I can understand her devastation, but I think even if she had skated both her short program and free skate perfectly, she still would have come up short of a gold. I can't imagine what the Japanese press are going to do to her, though. :-\

And now, introducing the gold medalist and Olympic Champion, Kim Yu-Na! OMG FLAWLESS. She just blew away the competition, and rightly so. Are you human, Yu-Na, or are you an ~ANGEL~?

Brian Orser finally has his gold medal! I just love pictures of Yu-Na with Brian Orser, so let's spam:
