Congrats to obaona, rightxhere, and scifi_tv_addict! You earned your places with months of amazing work. Thank you.

Congrats to all of our participants. Thank you for playing in the SG-1 LIMS sandbox. We can't do it without you, the makers and the voters. Now it's time for you to give us feedback so that we can try to make this a place where people will want to continue ( Read more... )

round 3, feedback, round 4, poll

Why were these challenges less satisfying?
Any icon relating to the use of text....I hate. Largely because I suck at it, but also because text is E V I L. I just thought you should know.....although I may have said this to you before ;)

Also, huge thank you to you for all your hard work here! I had an AMAZING time with this challenge, and really got to have fun experimenting (and learning sometimes it's not really the place for it lol), but mostly I really loved seeing what everyone was submitting each week...every week being in awe of the creations that came about.

So, again, thank you so much for all your hard work here, and also for the invite to join in on the fun :) I almost didn't...but I'm glad I did, for all of the above reasons.

The devil's advocate in me wants to point out that anything that produces that much discomfort is a good challenge but the icon maker in me so totally understands exactly how evil the challenge was. I think we'll always have at least one challenge involving text. The first round, it was a requirement in the finals for one of the icons, IIRC. I don't know how it would manifest itself if we had another round but you can bet it'll show up. Because beeej and I are the essence of pure evil. ;)

I, too, am very grateful that you joined us! I'm patting myself on the back right now for having invited you. *feels clever*

BTW, Line in the Sand is noted. It's perfectly fine with me for someone to name her favorite episode. I plan to use these as starting points when we're coming up with themes for the hypothetical next round. :)

I hate LIMS...I really really do.

BUT you guys made me *love* LIMS. :D (Which is why I started two of my own exactly like this one) I really love how the challenges are given early and how you give multiple images and that's why I only participate in LIMS that are sisters to this one. :)

So thanks for making *such* a great comm! :D

*hugs you guys*

Hee! I feel EXACTLY the same way you do! I'd checked out LIMS and couldn't imagine why anyone would want to participate. It was shadowserenity who established this LIMS pattern and I had a blast even though I didn't really watch the show and didn't make it very far at lantis_lims. Having more than one cap and having lead time to play with the caps on my own schedule were the key.

You're very welcome. We're happy that you're here, too!

Oh my Gods, I had the *BEST* time ever in this LIMS! I'd never done one before, but I've had such a great experience here ( ... )

General Idea:
I saw a contest recently, where the winners of each round were required to make a tutorial of how they did the icon. This sounds a bit arduous, but I was wondering you could somehow incorporate something similar. Like, the winners could be invited to explain what they did, or give general tips, maybe in the alternates post?

I mention this, because for me the most valuable part of this whole contest was what I learnt. I'm still a relative icon novice, and I always want to improve. Getting tips from great icon makers would really help!

I really love this idea, quite often there are styles that people use which for myself I'd never even considered, and any chance to learn more by makers briefly (or in a more detailed manner) touching on what they did, how or even why....would be such a treat.

Wow. Thank you for your kind words. I cannot begin to tell you how pleased I am to read them. beeej and I worked hard and I'm gratified that it's noticeable. :) I'm really glad, too, that you've found the comm to be friendly and giving. It was my hope that we'd build a community of friends rather than competitors, despite the intensely competitive nature of a LIMS.

I love your ideas for themes and I will be adding those the Master List. Those are good for incorporating a variety of characters and are both Old School and Fargate-friendly. THANK YOU! *smooches*

I think I know the comm you saw (or there's more than one) and I LOVE that idea. I wouldn't be comfortable making it mandatory because I think a LIMS is tough enough without adding the need to write tutorials. But I will talk to beeej. Maybe we could add it to the alternates thread as an invitation to winners strictly as an optional and no time limit thing?

I look forward to seeing you again in our next round!

I totally agree, that a mandatory requirement to explain how an icon was made is too much! LIMS are hard, and especially so in this comm where you keep to strict time-limits! =)

But as an optional invitation, I think it could work really well. It doesn't even have to be as detailed as a tutorial. General tips or creative inspiration would still be really interesting, and really useful for other participants! But if people don't have time, and it's not mandatory, then it's no biggie =)

I am soooo looking forward to the next round! <3 <3

TICKIES ARE THE BEST EVEEEER! :D:D:D:DDDD

This LIMS is the best lims ever. I always looked forward on everything, and seeing that voting or results post made me always so excited!

And a huuuuge thank you for you two mods on being always on time and the caps are awesome and you just rock and do so much work! *claps hands*

.....i don't think i had anything else to say now? If i did, i'll commment again then

LOL! I know most people are just wading through the other stuff to get to the tickies. :)

Being on time is extremely important to me. I suppose that's obvious but I think the first step to killing a comm is to be tardy. If the mod can't be bothered, why should the players?

I'm relieved that the caps were good. In the first two rounds, we had the luxury of having co-mods with the time to make us new, gorgeous caps on demand to suit a challenge. I think every challenge had at least a couple of "new," high-quality caps. It felt particularly creative rather than sifting through a couple thousand caps to find the one that most closely worked. We didn't have that luxury this time so I was curious how the caps worked for people.

On my end, it felt less, "special" but I wasn't certain it would be felt by the makers. I'm glad that what we found still worked well. :)
