Congrats to obaona, rightxhere, and scifi_tv_addict! You earned your places with months of amazing work. Thank you.

Congrats to all of our participants. Thank you for playing in the SG-1 LIMS sandbox. We can't do it without you, the makers and the voters. Now it's time for you to give us feedback so that we can try to make this a place where people will want to continue ( Read more... )

round 3, feedback, round 4, poll

Oh my Gods, I had the *BEST* time ever in this LIMS! I'd never done one before, but I've had such a great experience here =)!

The best thing about this comm: The friendly community. I really felt like you mods were active and that you cared about the contest. You were always very prompt in making updates, and clear on when each voting/entering period would end. And being able to post alternates and give/get extra feedback made me feel like the rest of the participants cared too.

I loved all the themes, and the caps you chose were great too. There was always something I wanted to work with =) Oh, and I know a lot of people hate text, but I really looked forward to the text challenge! It's one of the few really "different" challenges in the mix.

My suggestions for future themes:
1) "Expressions"
I *love* icons that highlight a particularly good expression (happy, surprised, sleepy, stupid). I think this could be a quite fun theme, and you could use a lot of different characters.

2) "Back to the Beginning"
The first appearance of different characters? I love this theme because it's usually been a while since I watched those early eps, so it's a fun surprise to revisit them. And you can pick quite diverse caps.

3) "Dress Ups!"
Anytime anyone has to wear any kind of disguise or silly costume! <3 I love eps with funny costumes in them, and they make great icons, because the characters we know and love always look different. SG1 also has *plenty* of silly costume eps =) So there'd be lots of choice!

General Idea:
I saw a contest recently, where the winners of each round were required to make a tutorial of how they did the icon. This sounds a bit arduous, but I was wondering you could somehow incorporate something similar. Like, the winners could be invited to explain what they did, or give general tips, maybe in the alternates post?

I mention this, because for me the most valuable part of this whole contest was what I learnt. I'm still a relative icon novice, and I always want to improve. Getting tips from great icon makers would really help!

I don't know how feasible it is, but I was just thinking about it ^__^

Thanks so much for running this contest guys! I had the best time ever! I will definitely come back for the next round!

I really love this idea, quite often there are styles that people use which for myself I'd never even considered, and any chance to learn more by makers briefly (or in a more detailed manner) touching on what they did, how or even why....would be such a treat.

Wow. Thank you for your kind words. I cannot begin to tell you how pleased I am to read them. beeej and I worked hard and I'm gratified that it's noticeable. :) I'm really glad, too, that you've found the comm to be friendly and giving. It was my hope that we'd build a community of friends rather than competitors, despite the intensely competitive nature of a LIMS.

I love your ideas for themes and I will be adding those the Master List. Those are good for incorporating a variety of characters and are both Old School and Fargate-friendly. THANK YOU! *smooches*

I think I know the comm you saw (or there's more than one) and I LOVE that idea. I wouldn't be comfortable making it mandatory because I think a LIMS is tough enough without adding the need to write tutorials. But I will talk to beeej. Maybe we could add it to the alternates thread as an invitation to winners strictly as an optional and no time limit thing?

I look forward to seeing you again in our next round!

I totally agree, that a mandatory requirement to explain how an icon was made is too much! LIMS are hard, and especially so in this comm where you keep to strict time-limits! =)

But as an optional invitation, I think it could work really well. It doesn't even have to be as detailed as a tutorial. General tips or creative inspiration would still be really interesting, and really useful for other participants! But if people don't have time, and it's not mandatory, then it's no biggie =)

I am soooo looking forward to the next round! <3 <3

I'm wondering if making a third post each time results are announced where I invite the winners to talk about their icon-making process might be a way to go? I'd have to poll the comm and see if this was something generally wanted.
