Honestly, the cursing in Discovery really turned me off! I saw the "fuck off somewhere" gifset and was like ........... I honestly don't know if I can do this, and I'm not a language prude (you've seen the kind of words Brutus and Lyme use, lol) but ... I dunno, tonally it just felt really weird.

Ha, well, I'm glad to hear it's not just me then?? (like, it's nice to hear this coming from someone who writes the language you do) Because it felt tonally off to me too. XD;

Well as far as cursing goes, I'm all caught up on the Trek episodes and there really weren't other glaring instances of it? addressed to you as well as lorata There are other reasons for the TV-MA rating though, fair warning.

That actually does make me feel better -- it's not the words themselves, exactly, more the ... tone? of the show I was worried about, kind of. Like, edgy "ooh look, this isn't Old Fashioned Stodgy Star Trek, we say FUCK! we're Cool Star Trek!" nonsense. Which, I realize, is a lot to take from a gifset! But I really don't like Modern Edgy Remakes of things (the rumoured Quentin Tarantino Star Trek is like ........ the worst thing in the absolute world to me) so I was wary. If it's more something they threw in for an ooh-shocking trailer moment but the show is more organic, I think I'd be better off.

Yeah. I had that same feeling going into Star Trek (2009), even if it was fun, and probably more so with whatever Tarantino is planning.

Even if it's a bit cheesy, I've always loved the Big Picture This-Is-Why-We're-Here writing of past Trek series. I was happy to see Discovery carry on that tradition. :)

Hehe, seems like a cozy setup you and your dad have figured out.

Ooh, the Roaring Twenties, German style...! I wonder which years it'll cover. (seems like if you're going to do a Western show or anime centered around that time, you probably need to address the elephant in the room...) ^^;

It came together very naturally, ha ha.
...My mom originally meant for that seat to wind up outside, but it's been mutually decided that it's too pretty for that. XD; And it's perfect for this set up.

The show begins in 1929...and so it can only go forward from there. Berlin itself was pretty liberal at this time, so I'd say there are a wide array of forces/trends at work at the moment...Soviet agents (Stalinists), Trotsky-ites, some very jingo-istic military types...
I've been very entertained by the variety of drag kings and drag queen type characters who have appeared as part of the night club scene. :D
