"Go on, Harry, I dare you!" said Ron.
"But --"
"No way, Harry. The deal was that if I did what you asked, you would accept a dare from me. Now you have it, and you have to do it. Brave Gryffindor and all that."
"What's he got to do?" Seamus asked Ron, having just caught the end of their conversation.
"He's got to go use a line on Malfoy over there."
"You don't mean he's going to try to pick him up, do you? I mean Harry … and Malfoy? You don't really want --"
"Hell no! I'm just doing it to embarrass Harry and get a rise out of Malfoy. It should be good for the entertainment value alone."
Harry groaned, and Seamus slapped him on the back. "Ah, it's all in good fun then, yeah? Go on, then … get on with it. Let's see the show." He positively beamed at Harry who simply let out another groan.
Making his way across the room, Harry was wondering what Malfoy's reaction was going to be. He couldn't have been more shocked when Ron came up with his dare. He knew that Ron didn't know … nobody knew about his crush. And now, because he was a Gryffindor and wouldn't back down from a dare, he was going to make a complete arse of himself in front of the object of his crush.
"Ahem," Harry ventured.
Malfoy looked up, raising an eyebrow. "Potter? Did you want something?"
"Might I … have a word?" He could feel the blood rushing to his face. He chanced a quick glance towards Ron and Seamus who were watching intently. Malfoy's eyes followed.
"What is it, Potter?"
"Could we talk … over there?" Harry asked, pointing to a more private corner.
"Very well." Once they had moved Malfoy asked, "Now what is it?"
"Er … how'dyaliketoridemybroom?" Harry spilled out incoherently.
"Excuse me?"
Harry cleared his throat, took a deep breath and tried again. "How would you like to ride my broom?" he asked, looking down at his feet.
"Potter? … Potter!" Harry looked up. "Is this some kind of joke? What are you playing at?"
"Er … "
"Did those fool friends of yours put you up to this?"
"Mhm," Harry said, nodding. "A dare."
"A dare?"
"Yeah. A dare to use that horrible line to try to pick you up. Ron figured it would embarrass me and piss you off."
"Oh really? So how would you like to get back at them?"
"Ron."
"Pardon?"
"Ron. I only need to get back at Ron. Seamus didn't have anything to do with it."
A smirk spread over Malfoy's face. "Excellent," he purred. "Play along now, Potter. Just follow my lead."
"Okay," Harry said hesitantly, not sure what he was agreeing to.
He soon found out, as Malfoy smiled up at him, licking his lips lasciviously. "Sure, Potter. I would LOVE to go for a ride on your broom. Any. Time. You. Want." Malfoy made sure his voice carried across the room, although he wasn't too obvious. He stepped closer to Harry with each word.
Harry gaped at him. A quick glare from Malfoy reminded him it was an act. Pushing aside a feeling of disappointment, he played along. "Well, then. How about right now?" Harry asked, moving into Malfoy's personal space, waggling his eyebrows for good measure.
Malfoy responded by running his hands through Harry's hair, and pulling him into a deep kiss. Acting or not, that was really Malfoy's tongue in his mouth, and Harry couldn't help but respond. He was just starting to get lost in the feel and the taste of the kiss when Malfoy pulled away. "Right now would be perfect," Malfoy whispered.
As they left the room, it wasn't only Ron's look of shock that followed them. Leaning over to Millicent, Blaise said, "Draco's been wanting to ride Potter's broom for years. Guess he finally got his wish."
