Wellspring Notes II

May 30, 2007 13:58

Skipping to more impressions and events than a chronological retelling, at this point.

I finally got a chance to meet malacat13! Anne is a hoot and a half, and we're trying to talk her into bringing Max and Ron to Chicago for a visit (Ron can go game in Wisconsin, according to Anne, while the rest of us hit the Children's Museum and fun stuff!) I really ( Read more... )

OMG, it was SOOOO good to see you guys, and I am distraught at the prospect of having NO IDEA when I'll ever see you again ( ... )

It's always a joy to spend time with you, Jenni. Wellspring craziness made that time painfully short, but I'm sure we'll get more time in the near future to do so again. It won't be Summerlands without you!

True, the Bad Old Days are coming to an end. I give a lot of credit to the efforts I've seen in the last few years by people who care about the organization. I'm still not sure where or if I fit in it all, but I'm sure the Gods will guide me to the right path. If anything, I'll always be around as a Sdruid (spouse of a druid, credit Ray, who is a Spagan) because Chris loves the org's spirit and message. I'll help in whatever way I'm called because I want to org to always be there for him and for all of you on the Druid path.
As for the Symbel oath thing... I have to agree with the t-shirt: "Best to leave it in the hands of the Gods." People *can* learn without your pointing out their mistakes... and if they don't, it's their problem.
Well, they *can* learn, but they seldom do, it seems. When people don't learn those lessons and we ( ... )

*grin* I LOVE that tee-shirt idea! I would wear it!

As for your email idea, I would caution you to remember that, sometimes, if people aren't ready to hear the message, they just won't.

But even more, I have to say how VERY MUCH I respect that Chris made that oath and meant it. Just his answering yes to her questions may have given her plenty to think about.

True, although are any of us *ready* to hear things like that, ever? To me it's like preparing for someone's death - you might think you're ready, but you never really can be fully prepared to deal with the event. In that sense, telling her that she dishonored someone may not sink in until later, but, if I never make her aware of it, she'll be forever oblivious to her actions.

Also as Chris just pointed out, if we don't defend our oaths, what does that say about the seriousness in which we pledged it?

Still and all, I'm very proud of Chris for his oath to Diana. I later oathed to Earrach that I would similarly help him get one project edited and published in the coming year, so we both were able to take on something to help out.

Some of the toasts were very heartfelt and made me tear up a bit, especially when Craig proposed to Jess.

OMG! The things I miss when I'm being lazy and hot-tubbing instead of attending the Sumbel!

Her presumption just floors me. She doesn't know any of the parties involved, nor their close history, nor does she have any connection to the oath itself. Why she would feel possessed to challenge an oath between two people who consider each other Family and the Gods is beyond me.

Huh. That is kind of rude, isn't it? Especially since as far as I know, Chris has been an ADF member for quite some time. At least I've heard his name around as long as I can remember in ADF, even though I only met you guys last August. And she's rather young, isn't she?

Chris is the one in our relationship that takes things in stride - I'm the one that doesn't suffer fools gladly.Oh I understand that totally! It's the same way with me and Rod. He keeps me balanced. A similar thing sort of happened with us this weekend. A certain well-respected favorite ( ... )

Oh, Liz, it was so touching - I'm so sad you missed it, because it was one of the highlights of the event. They're such a wonderful couple, and it was just the nervous & sweet way that Craig worked his way into asking her to handfast. It truly brought tears to so many eyes.

Yup, Chris actually predates ADF by a few years, having been in Isaac's RDNA. And yes, she's young, which could explain a lot about it.

Oh I understand that totally! It's the same way with me and Rod.It sounds like you and I have similar roles in our relationships, Liz. Both Rod and Chris are very sweet souls, and you and I are the ones that will do practically anything to keep them from harm (another ( ... )

I really wish I could have made it to Wellspring this year but could not. In fact the last rite I did as a Sassafrassian before becoming a Phoenician(Grove of the Rising Phoenix)was the Ancestor Rite last Wellspring. I am hoping to suprise them at their fall rite since I will be in the east coast going to Between the Worlds in Spetember. I really hope you consider going to BtW.

I'm so glad you fell in with a good Grove in your new home, Paul. We talked about going to BtW, but drubear is trying to save up vacation for a few trips later in the year. We met Dave Whaley from Sassafras, and he talked BtW up a lot, too.

And there's always Summerlands in August!

It was awesome to meet both you and Chris, I've already talked up Chicago for Ron but he mumbled something about crime...blah, blah. But I'm confident I can convince him...eventually.

As for the oath thing, well you know how I feel about that.

Same here, Anne - I really wish we could've spent more time around the fire with you, but there'll be plenty of s'mores opportunities in future I'm sure.

Tell Ron that our house hasn't been broken into in *days*, and I've only been physically assaulted twice since returning from WS...Chicago is perfectly safe!! Plus, they give you a standard-issue assault rifle when you step off the plane at O'Hare (pistols for the kids - small hands, ya know). Chicago is paradise! :)

Seriously, though, we would love to have you guys visit, so keep Chicago in mind.
