Blah blah blah + poll

Ugh, I really hate when I start reading a long fic that seems pretty good and sucks me in, and then it starts to go downhill, but I'm too involved with the story to stop reading, even if I think I'm going to vomit if the author uses any more italics, and if the story line gets any more sickeningly saccharine. How many times can these (grown male) ( Read more... )

question, rants

I think I read Due South fic before I watched the show. That was my first real fandom.

And I said a few times a week for eating out, but that's because I'm counting brunch/lunch (we have weekend brunches Saturday and Sunday, most times, and I have a standing lunch date with a friend on Fridays). For evening meals, it's more like once or twice a month.

Interesting! If that was your first fandom, how did you happen to stumble across the fic before seeing the show? I didn't even realize there was such a thing as fanfic until I went googling for more, more, more about the movie that ended up being my first fandom (Newsies).

Ooh, brunch is one of those meals that I never go out for, but I should! So delicious. That's awesome that you do it regularly.

A friend (who later became a trusty beta) sent me a link to a story, and I was all, "Wow! That was excellent. Is there any more?" Heh. I had read some Buffy fanfic before that, having stumbled across it on the internet. I even wrote one fic, but I didn't know anything about online/LJ-centric fandom, and if I had, I would've been wildly intimidated by the size and intensity of BtVS fandom. :-)

Haha! Friends enabling friends -- it's what fandom is all about. :-)

Yep, I read Suits fic before I watched the show; yummy! And I read a fun little RPS 30 Seconds to Mars fic (with BDSM and incest - fun!) before I even knew who they were (I had to Google them so I'd know what they looked like!)

I didn't even know there was a Kudos button on AO3! If I knew about it, I'd probably be one of those people who over-used it. I do that with the Like button on Facebook.

Question 3 was kinda random; but yeah, I eat out way too much. I'm sure we could save a lot of money if I'd cook. I just really hate to cook! :-D

Hugs, Cindy

Haha, I've been doing this with hockey players! (Although occasionally I wish I hadn't bothered -- play-off beards and missing teeth are Bad Things.)

Glad to introduce you to the kudos button. Some authors love it; some say it's evil. It does make leaving appreciation a hell of a lot easier.

LOL, yes, my polls tend to be a bit random. I had other non-fannish questions I wanted to ask but I couldn't remember them at the time I was posting, so that's why there was just the lone question about food. :-P

Cooking for yourself tends to be much healthier and cheaper, which is why I do it most of the time (I am cheap, yo), but it's so much nicer when someone else makes the meal, no? :-)

I don't read fan fiction other than QAF, and I had to be dragged to it kicking and screaming. I can't even begin to imagine reading fic about a canon I have never read/watched. My brain simply doesn't work that way!

I wish my brain didn't work that way, as I'd have a lot more free time. ;-)

No one eats out daily. Funny. I would have guessed it was more common. Schmoopy fic with crying UGH times a million.

We finally got one vote for "daily"! But yeah, I was a little surprised by that too. I figured people probably ate lunch out on workdays and such. I guess we're all more frugal than I thought. :-)

It was so sad-making. I am not necessarily opposed to men crying IF it's rare, the circumstances are convincing, etc. But this was so not that. >:-(

There may very well be some published m/m about ice hockey players. :)

Oh, dear. Of course there is! Got any recs? ;-)

Haha! I actually haven't read any yet. This m/m review site has a sports tag: http://www.reviewsbyjessewave.com/category/sports/

And these two are highly rated hockey-themed stories from the same site:

I believe Kate Sherwood is a reliably good writer, if that means anything. :)

Ah, thank you! I have read and enjoyed one of Kate Sherwood's books already (Lost Treasure), so maybe I will put that one on my list. :-)
