Two different people.
Two separate conversations.
Two distinct words.

I've gone my entire life
without hearing these two words
used in verbal conversations
Then last week all that changed

The suspense is unbearable
The anticipation almost macabre
Come now, come later, come not at all
I am waiting, patiently waiting, ever waiting

Woke up in the dead of night.
Fumbling in the unlit kitchen for a glass of water.
Looked around the darkened room.
Shadowed, alien, hidden from view.
House did not feel like home.
Never felt more alone.

I've been in a bit of a rut lately
Both personally and professionally
I find myself lacking motivation and creativity
And it weighs heavily on my psyche
I don't know how to dig myself out
But recognizing this funk is the first step to overcoming it

Someone I admire greatly lost a loved one recently
I was reminded anew of how fragile life is
And how strong some bonds can be

You: So what do you do?
Me: I work at a university.
You: Really, what do you teach?
Me: Actually, I work in administration.

I started a new job a few months ago
And honestly there are days when I feel like I'm drowning.
The work itself was not hard to learn
But the weight of responsibility is heavy.

But I know I will get there eventually.
