[The voice coming through the speakers is soft, kind, with just the slightest bit of earnesty.]

I'd like to thank the captain and everyone involved for allowing me to be here today.  This is a wonderful opportunity for me.

My name is Johan Liebert, and I've volunteered for the position of cabin boy here.  I'll be only too ( Read more... )

Oh, I seem to have joined the ship at an opportune time. You are a student of peace, monsieur?

A student of law, mademoiselle. You are new as well?

[A light laugh.] Oh, quite a difference, to be sure.

Indeed, I have arrived only today. Perhaps I will follow your example, after I have finished attending to my baggage?

Law carries different meanings for different countries. But I'm certain Ivona's is for peace, as you inferred.

Will you allow me to assist you? I do need to get accustomed to my new job, after all... [He answers her laugh with one of his own.]

Are you really expecting honest answers to that question?

Sometimes the answers people feel they need to give are more telling than the real ones, sir.

So I guess I'm hoping for enlightening ones, ha ha.

Do you really think that the crew would try so hard to cover up their true nature, though?

A wonderful opportunity, is it? I wonder if you'll still think that once you've learned the answer to your question, Mr. Liebert.

Until then, at least, welcome aboard.

[He laughs.] Perhaps it is best rephrased "a rare opportunity?"

I'm very interested to see what my research will reveal. Thank you.

Well, I'm probably the most interesting person on this ship.

I'm Dee Reynolds. You'd probably know by my stage name, Freddie Diana. That's right. You have a celebrity on board.

Oh...! A celebrity. I've never spoken with one before. It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Reynolds.

If you don't mind my asking, what brings you aboard a military ship?

I'm doing some charity work to help my image.

I heard that staying aboard this ship was good for getting in the public's eye, but I haven't seen any journalists or photographers around here in a long time. I'm thinking about calling my agent and getting something set up. Maybe a picture with me next to the Captain. My fans eat that stuff up.

[He laughs delightedly.] That's very admirable. Does your image really need the help?

Either way, I'm sure our captain would be thrilled to take a picture with you. He seems like a reasonable man.

Not many students are given this opportunity. I see it as an honour, Major...

It is a pleasure to meet you. I'll no doubt be running some errand or another for you, so we shall properly meet in person soon.
