I had a chance to scrub in on a surgery with Dr. Shepherd this morning but I turned it down and said that I had a really busy morning in the pit. I didn't. I just knew that Aubrey had an appointment this morning and that he was going into surgery

I slide out of the car and grab my bag, slinging it over my head, across my body. As I walk towards the sliding double doors, I stop abruptly. "Mel? What are you doing here?"

We walk into the office, and I check in with the receptionist. She gives me paperwork to fill out, and I sit down next to Mel.

"What was the surgery?" I ask as I write my name.

[drmelbohland]

"Hemispherectomy," I answer, "With a corpus callisotomy."

[dr_aubreyparker]

I purse my lips. I'm so pissed that I'm missing all of that.

"I can't believe you passed up that surgery."

[drmelbohland]

"I can't believe he's missing the appointment for a surgery."

[dr_aubreyparker]

"He's a surgeon. I, of all people, should understand that."

[drmelbohland]

"He's not only a surgeon. He's a person too."

[dr_aubreyparker]

"He's 90% surgeon and 10% person."

[drmelbohland]

"Yeah, well, he's 100% the person who knocked you up."

[dr_aubreyparker]

"Yeah, I guess. He'll be here for the next one. I'm sure of it."

[drmelbohland]

"I hope so. He needs to be here."

[dr_aubreyparker]

"He will be."

I finish filling out the forms, and I have the clipboard back to the receptionist.

"I'm nervous," I admit as I sit back down.

[drmelbohland]

I look over at her, "Really?" I ask, "What's making you nervous? The whole exposure thing or all of it?"

[dr_aubreyparker]

"All of it. All of it. The idea of it, all of the potential problems. There's so many things."

[drmelbohland]

"It's..okay. I'm sure you'll be good at this. You're good at everything else. Things will be fine."

[dr_aubreyparker]

I take a deep breath. I hope she's right.

"They'll have to be fine, right? It's happening."
