Whiskey

*sigh* I'm not a whiskey drinker. I don't hate it, it's just never my favorite.

I need to purchase, somewhere in Seattle's lovely liquor stores, a fifth of whiskey. What's Seattle drinking ( Read more... )

My favorite has always been Tullamore Dew Whiskey. It ranges in the $20-30 and is very smooth to drink. I've had people who are not so hot on whiskey like it when I introduced them to it.

That was going to be my recommendation as well. Most of my whiskey intake these days is single-malt scotch, but you're not going to get that for $30.

I would love to buy single-malt scotch! But I need to use my money for things. :( Maybe if I was dating the guy.

You agree Tullamore Dew will work for my purposes?

Well, my whiskey-snob husband likes Knob Creek and Woodford Reserve, but I'm not sure they're in that price range. They have cool bottles, though!

Okay, I'll put them on the list.

Knob Creek is okay, but I would hardly call that whisky snobbery.

why not just ask us which religion is the correct one?

I'm not asking which is right, just which you believe in. :)

And unlike religion, picking between different recommendations of whiskey seems like it will end well.

it is very difficult to go wrong with whiskey, provided there is enough of it.

If all else fails, a bottle of Jack.

I am Jack's inflamed sense of disappointment.

We have Jack up in the mountains. A lot of it. My liver has the initials "JD" engraved on it somewhere.

Point taken.

I'm afraid I can't be much help. For me, it's beer, vodka, or rum.

Same here, although honestly, I have pretty bad taste in vodka, anyway.

Rock on, Mr. Skeleton Man.

If you're looking to buy something that cheap, then I'll second the vote for Bulleit. (I very much doubt you'll find Maker's Mark in your price range.) That's actually bourbon, which might be whiskey, but isn't whisky. Beyond that, I don't see much to choose from among the cheap blended crap or Glenwhatever singles you'll get for under 30 bucks.

Personally, I'd go for a bottle of Bunnahabhain, but that'll run you closer to $40 or more.

Maker's Mark is less than I thought it would be, but still more than my gift budget. I'll look at Bulleit.

I am in fact a bad friend. A bad friend with an even worse job.

Well, as a bad friend you're in luck, then. IMHO, Bulleit tastes as good as or better than Maker's Mark, at least drunk neat as God Intended. (Anyone who dumps soda pop or ice in their whisky doesn't deserve to live, let alone drink good whisky.) And it comes in a nifty, old-fashioned pressed glass bottle. If you want to go whole hog, you can sometimes find the matching pressed glass lowball or shot glasses on eBay.

Do they deserve to drink bad whisky?
