Time to bite the bullet and file Chapter 7. Googled for all the necessary "should I? Really" and after a glass of wine and a phone call to mom, I need recommendations

I think you should get a second job and work on paying off your debt, because bankruptcy is treated so casually these days it's really insane. My father had a failed business that he had to file for bankruptcy and he could buy NOTHING for 7 years without my mother co-signing. If anything happens to your car & you need to get another one, do you really want to be treated like a high-schooler & have to have your parents co-sign for something?
Also, I'm annoyed with everyone going "wah--I need to dump this debt"...can't anyone have a backbone anymore & actually WORK for a living & live within their means? And if they don't--CLEAN UP THEIR OWN MESSES?
She should have chosen a cheaper medical emergency!
But can't you rant about banks just as easily? How dare those stupid banks dole out investor money to such an obviously borderline borrower? Can't they perform due dilligence and STOP ISSUING CREDIT TO DISTRESSED BORROWERS?
Furthermore, the poster did not borrow your money. So it's not really your mess. Faced with reduced incomes from the recession and a complication like medical costs, bankrupcies are surging. Why can't she just get a better paying job? Why can't you? I know why! LACK OF BACKBONE. Right?
so you're probably a classist. my girlfriend had brain operations that cost over $2,000,000. how would that impact your finances? does your plan have a "lifetime limit"?
I'm filing for bankruptcy right now after going through a lot of credit counseling and debt consolidation - one that completely hosed me so be careful who you go with if you decide to do that instead. If you want to seek bankruptcy as your option, a good lawyer will make sure it really is the right decision for you or if you should take a different route. I would suggest my lawyer, but it looks like you've had some good suggestions already. I wish you luck - bankruptcy is NOT a dirty word, even though a lot of people treat it that way. It makes me happy to say it now that I know all that it can actually do for my life going forward.

almost anyone else claiming to lower your payments / reduce your debt (especially advertising on tv / radio) is likely fraudulent.
