I thought the ending of the movie was ambiguous, that you could decide for yourself whether the top fell or not, and thus whether Cobb was in a dream or not. But people seem pretty confident that it was just supposed to mean he was in a dream.

Yes, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is supremely awesome, and if I could watch a two-hours movie of him running/floating in that hotel, I would.
The movie wanted to have the ending both ways, I think. So the reading "it's all a dream" is perfectly valid. But the totem did sound as if it will fall any moment, and people say it did fall. For my money, the ending was TOTALLY ambiguous, but um I don't want the top to have fallen, because I sort of wanted him to suffer more for having fucked over his wife like that. /0?
