"But my lungs are up here."

PLEASE NOTE: If you're buying one of my vid DVDs at the con, they'll be $2. I managed to get all of my materials on sale and the booklet is going to be electronic. I am burning discs like a crazy person for the next three days, since my machine hates me and has been screwing up the .vob files for two weeks. Heh.

We finished season 1 of Six Feet Under and goddamn I love the Fishers. I'm not even sure how to talk about this show, which is part of the reason I've been sporadic about it instead of keeping up with the episodes as we watch them. The other reason is that we've been moving quickly (for us) through the episodes. Always a sign of how very much we love a show. :)

It's the characters that ultimately make SFU work. I adore every single one of them now, with no qualms or caveats. Brenda and Nate and DAVID (oh, DAVID) and Ruth (Ruth! You're so...gah, you're so awesome) and CLAIRE and Nathaniel, Sr. and KEITH (wow, he is made of so much win) and RICO. I felt like Nathaniel, Sr. at the end of the season 1 finale, just staring at them all full of love. The beauty of the show being about them is that I feel like I could watch ten or fifteen seasons, because they're people I want to see just eat breakfast. And each of the characters gets a life. The amount of agency the women have is really refreshing; I love that Ruth's storyline is all about finding her own agency. The way she responded to Hiram dumping her was one of the best things I have ever seen. I'm worried about Claire, but she's young and making the mistakes of youth and so it's mostly just hard to watch her go through it when I REALLY do not trust Gabe. Brenda and Nate both just make me super-happy now. Their trip to Vegas filled me full of so much glee.

The show itself also has been hitting on philosophical and emotional issues that I think loom large for all of us and have been items I've been particularly thinking about for the last year or two. I love how beautifully the thesis of the show was summed up by that conversation between Nate and Tracy in the season finale ("Why do people die?" "To make life important.").

I'm pretty sure I know what's going on with Nate based on previous exposure to SFU via the flist, but the rest of it is kind of a mystery. (Except one thing that happens to David, thanks to TWoP.) I look forward to exploring more of the life of the Fishers.

Changing subjects abruptly, here are four vid recs:

- Keep the Customer Satisifed, a George Michael vid (Arrested Development) by sisabet that is absolutely entirely adorable and made of LOVE.

- Ever Fallen In love, a Hard Core Logo vid by fan_eunice that is also made of love, but the kind that spits on you and punches you in the face. This vid makes well-known source feel new again.

- Lagrimas, a Mary vid (Supernatural) by sweetestdrain that is a sad, moving, kind of creepy musing on Mary and what we know about her. A different look at the well-vidded SPN universe.

- (Out of) Classical Gas, a Firefly vid by jarrow that is fun and full of love for my show. It's sharply edited and moves like a crazy thing, and balances happiness and heartache. MY SHOW. ♥

Happy belated birthday wishes to lipsum, sherrold, and wickedwords!

My favorite Michael/Mahone (Prison Break) author posted a 14,000 word fic today. I'm going to VIVIDCON on Thursday. I got to meet catwalksalone (even more awesome and funny than advertised, FYI) and spent a significant portion of my weekend squeeing about the sheer awesomeness of Ray Vecchio with her and brynnmck. I finally tried a Jaffa cake. I have the rest of Six Feet Under to watch thanks to jarrow. And I have The Office to vid, thanks to greensilver.

All I can say in conclusion is that it's a fine, fine day. I hope yours is even better.
