[How about someone who wasn't looking at you funny?]

[...What about someone who wasn't looking at you at all? No, see, a pot full of wilting flowers are much more important than some new addition to the list of scorched, and so above the possibly hostile looks natives were favoring him with that it was barely even funny. Those poor flowers must have been starving - the poor things needed -]

[- oph.]

[There was a drawback to not paying attention to where you were going, after all, which always seemed to be bumping unexpectedly into someone. Honestly, and there weren't even that many people about. Minatsuki started and curled her arms around the flower pot before glancing up in the direction of the -]

[- fuckin' roadblock; honestly, ever heard of making a better door than a window? -

[- boy she'd bumped into.]

O - oh. I'm sorry.

[Kira stops when something bumped into him, glancing down. Of course, the reason he'd not seen the girl was because she had been so darn tiny. How old was this kid?]

[His expression didn't change. This indifference that he used for almost everyone remained intact.]

Watch where you're going next time.

[The girl really was a pretty, little thing, wasn't she? Complete with the innocent look, the fucking flowers even. Too bad she wasn't his type. He had a better woman. ...]

[He stepped back so he could move around her, then paused, considering for a moment. ... Eh, why not. Wouldn't hurt his chances. Maybe it would get him places faster.]

I need to know where this door is. Where is it?

[Minatsuki had already turned from his, nodding her head once more in an unspoken (halfhearted) apology - now what did he want? Her lip twitched infinitesimally in the last second before she turned fully to face him, a perplexed, if not somewhat mildly curious expression painted on her face, accompanied with the slightest of head tilts.]

The door?

[She echoed slightly, eyebrows knit and mouth parted ever so slightly before it seemed to hit her and -]

O - oh. The door, door? The Door?

[Although clarification didn't seem to do anything for her knitted eyebrows.]

Why would you want to go there?

[Kira just waits for her to get it, thinking it too much effort to explain. See, look, the pretty thing had a brain. Worked just fine.]

Yeah. The Door. Is that with a capital 'D'? 'Cause yeah, it's the Door.

[Suddenly, something occurs to him. It was moments like these that his fondness for nicotine quietly made itself known, but this current situation, this was a problem. Where were his cigs?]

[As the girl asked her question, he busies himself with checking his pockets, in his trenchcoat, his pants, back pockets, the pocket inside the lapel of his coat...]

[Nope. None. ... Fucking Hell--]

That's none of your business. Also, where can I get smokes around here?

Deneve, her hood pulled up over her head and the swords on her back mostly hidden by her cloak, moved along one of the side streets near the Outlander building. It was part of her ground-level route out into the hunting grounds. She doesn't usually meet anyone in this part of town at this time of day, though this place is strange, really. Who could really predict what might happen.

Still, as she approaches him, her eyes, sharp and intelligent, catch a little light despite the hood, and they flash silver.

Strange people inhabiting the place. In fact, it looked like everything had come from some weird mix of a time period, actually. Wherever this Anatole was, it was some shithole of a city that thought it was stuck in another time. But where exactly was this city? Kira had been moving in between layers in Hell before he'd gotten here, but the air here certainly didn't feel anything like the sulfuric, sweltering atmosphere of Shioul, nor the polluted wasteland that was Gehenna. There was substance in the air around here, that was for sure, but it was different ( ... )

The stranger stopped. She couldn't sense any yoki or power of any kind coming from him, but that didn't mean anything here. There were types of power she couldn't read. Normally, she might have just walked by him, ignored him or tried to get him to ignore her, but given the unpredicable nature of power in this place, she stopped as well, rather than turning her back on someone who had their attention on her.

"Problem?" Her voice was soft, non-confrontational, non-threatening. There was nothing in it to suggest that she was ready for a fight should the stranger decide to attack her.

... something from the past. Another memory, another life-- yeah, that wasn't now. As recent the revelation (hah, that word choice was a hell of a lot more ironic than Kira would have liked) of his identity was, there were other things to deal with.

The woman had noticed him. Kira didn't reply, but continued to just stand there for a moment. Then, he turned to her, the edge of a lip curling slightly into a smirk, and shrugged.

"Not really," he said. "Nice swords." He moved to walk past her. While he could ask her for directions, he couldn't be sure if the answers she might give would actually help him. Then again, maybe he just didn't feel like asking.

[Simon is walking back to the apartments from the clinic. He's exhausted, and he's frustrated by the lack of solid information about River's current whereabouts. It sounds like perhaps she's back on Serenity after all. But until he's sure she's safe, Simon won't be happy.

On his way back, he notices a boy- a little older than River, and not exactly friendly looking. He's paused in front of another person walking down the street. Simon doesn't want to get involved, but the boy is clearly coming from the outlander apartments, so he must be new, too. He pauses for a moment, waiting to see what will happen.]

[After Kira passes the woman warrior in the street, he continues on, not yet noticing that his brief encounter with the woman had drawn someone else's attention. But things like looks and unwelcome attention tended to draw him, even after a while.

Several steps later, Kira stops abruptly, having noticed the weight of eyes watching him. Stopping, he looks around, turns a circle, searching.]

Who's there?

[Simon decides to introduce himself properly. While he understood when Sansa lied to him about her name, he doesn't feel the need to pretend to be someone else.]

My name is Simon Tam. I'm a doctor, and I'm new here as well. That is, I'm assuming you're new here, since you're coming from the apartments.

I just got a job at the clinic. I'll be one of the people patching you up if-

[It's then that he sees the katana.

The sword that reminds him instantly of that man, the Operative- the one who tried to take River away from him again, the deadly assassin of the Alliance. The katana was his weapon, too, wasn't it? Simon becomes wary of this boy now.]

...if you get into any trouble.

[Simon has a feeling he will.]

[OOC: I'm sorry for the extreme, extreme lateness! If you want to drop or handwave, I don't mind! I'm willing to backtag unto infinity, so whatever you want to do! I had a spontaneous slowatus that really just turned into a hiatus.]

[The katana at Kira's side slides back fully back into its sheath. Kira didn't think this man meant any harm. But he notices the strange way this man regards his sword.]

What is it? Heh, I won't use it on you. Yet.

[A pause. Maybe it's something else. It's almost an uncanny skill of his to figure out what people find uncomfortable.]

You don't like swords.
