It doesn't matter how it looks, though he silently judges it as he walks up and rings the bell. What matters is if the inside can be made better-for if he does end up taking a place, he's going to keep his room perfect. To his standards exactly.]

When he pulls open the front door, however, it's not William T. Spears he's expecting to see. He halts with the door half open, his face plainly reflecting the displeasure he feels. Why do reapers just keep showing up at his house?]
Can I help you, Mr. Spears?
Reply
Is this really happening. Somehow this demon has found a way to put himself in every part of William's life that he'd prefer to keep demon free-that is, every part. He sighs and adjusts his glasses, turning away.]
Seeing as I would rather drink acid rather than live in a house that you debauch with your presence, no.

You travelled all this way only to turn back without taking a look at the rooms?
[Make no mistake. It's not like he WANTS a reaper, particularly this reaper, renting a room in his master's house. But he's learned a few things during his time in Anatole: mainly that passing through the Door acts as a great equaliser. Others have treated him with greater respect than he has expected (or even deserved). Because they're all in the same boat, and regardless of outside circumstances and bias, generally all the Scorched are willing to work together to survive whatever the hostile city throws their way.
Spears, obviously, has not yet been privy to this revelation. Which wouldn't bother Sebastian at all, if he didn't really need to rent out those rooms. He lets out a huffy sigh.I suppose your childish behaviour should not come as a surprise to me, given my ( ... )

She approaches the door unaccompanied, like the modern young woman she is, and rings the bell.]

Ah, good evening, Miss Kindle. Might you be here to look at a room for rent?
[It's true, he supposes, that there are a finite number of Scorched looking for lodging in the city. Having acquaintances answer the ad probably shouldn't come as a shock.]
Reply
Indeed I have, Sebastian.
[Using his first name because he claimed to have no objection to it and his master apparently chooses to refer to him that way. She wouldn't want to go against the master of the house she was looking to take a room in. At least not yet.
One might think her crazy for considering voluntarily putting herself into a Victorian household, but there was something to be said for familiarity. Even though she still couldn't quite decide how she felt about Sebastian himself.]

[He steps aside and holds the door for her. Not a bad possibility for a tenant. She seems level-headed and should already understand how the house will be run.
The foyer is large, although there isn't much in the way of decoration. They're pretty strapped for cash, sorry. :\ It's a bit dreary in the way old houses inevitably are, but overall it's spotless.]
All the available rooms are upstairs. Would you like to see those first, or shall I show you the ground floor and what will be considered the common area?

This also means he must obtain a job.]
Ya-chee-roo, roo, is a child, and she can construck, struck-tuh, cakes. I could easily learn how to make human foods!
[One human building is much like another to Ax, but he notices the lawn as he and Elfangor approach the house. It would not be like the homeworld, but it would be better than no grass nearby at all.]
Reply
[Elfangor can't help but tease his brother a bit. Yes, getting a job is important for both of them, but he thinks it may be wise to obtain jobs in fields less prone to encouraging... a loss of self-control.
Then again, food preparation was at least something they could both be rather, ah, passionate about. Hmm. This would require some consideration.
But first, the matter of housing. He too notices the grass, and while he is aware that to humans it would appear overgrown and unkempt, he can only think it looks pleasantly lively. And should their potential new landlord require someone to provide lawn care, he is sure that he and Aximili are up to the job. He grins at the thought, and reaches out to ring the bell.]

This time, another surprise, but for a different reason. Two of them? And one Sebastian recognises as the boy with the unfortunate and vexing speech impediment.
Professional smile is a go.]
Good evening, gentlemen. Are you, perhaps, answering the ad posted about rooms for rent?
Reply
[Having worked in a human food establishment, however unofficially, briefly, and ill-fatedly, Ax truly believes he is an expert in their operating principles.
The human who answers the door sounds familiar, and after a moment, Ax places him as one of the humans he spoke to upon first finding himself in Anatole.]
Yes, we would like to know more about the spay, spacious rooms.

He would have found a place to stay already, but as he was stuck in this one little city with no escape routes, the better way was to play nice. It wouldn't do to manifest an Olympic-like palace in the middle of the city if he wanted to keep lying low - relatively low, anyway. He was a trickster after all.
He made himself visible and strolled up to the front door and knocked.]
Yoohoo! Anyone home? I'm here for the tour.
Reply
And. Oh. What. There's a deity on his porch. Divine... something. Sebastian thought he sensed something unpleasant on his way to the foyer.
But he doesn't show his reaction on his face. He just smiles like a polite butler would.]
Ah, very well, sir. And good evening to you. You are interested in seeing the rooms available for rent, then?
[He's not sure what else "the tour" is supposed to mean.]
Reply
Besides, this one was polite and had posted the rooms for rent notice. ... Unless it was a ruse to lure in easy munchies. The possibility gave Trickster even more of a reason to look around the place even though he didn't sense anything amiss.]
The rooms, yes. And the grounds, the common areas, the kitchens, maybe the basement. I'd like to get a feel for the place. It's a big decision, you know?
Reply
[A demanding deity, no less. But he hasn't called Sebastian out on the spot, so he'll return the courtesy.]
Please, come in. [He steps aside to let the god into the foyer.] And allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sebastian Michaelis, and I am butler to this household.
[And the Patrol, but he's not sure he wants to tell this bloke where he works.]
Reply
[Mostly he could do with some distractions for the moment. Checking out what the other Scorched were up to seems like as good a distraction as any.]
[Besides, he's always liked old houses. Maybe they'll have a demon or something he can get rid of for them.]
Reply
So you get Sebastian. Who is smelling very VERY human right now. Super human, if you will.
And this bloke, he smells... off. Literally. Like, just a touch stale. Although his soul is firmly intact, it's a little strange. But "a little strange" applies to much of the Scorched community, so Sebastian will dismiss it.]
Good evening, sir. Are you calling in regards to the ad posted for rooms, by any chance?
Reply
[Don't stare, though.]
Uh-- yeah, I saw the flyers. Thought I'd come check it out.
I gotta say, it's... not really what I was expecting to find.
[...you can eye someone suspiciously without it counting as staring, right?]
Reply
Ah. Well, perhaps you would like to take a look regardless? Outward appearances can often be deceiving.
[Kind of like right now. But Sebastian opens the door for Angel, motioning for him to come in, and keeps smiling.]
