It doesn't matter how it looks, though he silently judges it as he walks up and rings the bell. What matters is if the inside can be made better-for if he does end up taking a place, he's going to keep his room perfect. To his standards exactly.]

When he pulls open the front door, however, it's not William T. Spears he's expecting to see. He halts with the door half open, his face plainly reflecting the displeasure he feels. Why do reapers just keep showing up at his house?]
Can I help you, Mr. Spears?

Is this really happening. Somehow this demon has found a way to put himself in every part of William's life that he'd prefer to keep demon free-that is, every part. He sighs and adjusts his glasses, turning away.]
Seeing as I would rather drink acid rather than live in a house that you debauch with your presence, no.

You travelled all this way only to turn back without taking a look at the rooms?
[Make no mistake. It's not like he WANTS a reaper, particularly this reaper, renting a room in his master's house. But he's learned a few things during his time in Anatole: mainly that passing through the Door acts as a great equaliser. Others have treated him with greater respect than he has expected (or even deserved). Because they're all in the same boat, and regardless of outside circumstances and bias, generally all the Scorched are willing to work together to survive whatever the hostile city throws their way.
Spears, obviously, has not yet been privy to this revelation. Which wouldn't bother Sebastian at all, if he didn't really need to rent out those rooms. He lets out a huffy sigh.I suppose your childish behaviour should not come as a surprise to me, given my ( ... )

...I was going to look at the rooms, but.
[Everything that could go after that but is hanging in the air. Everything from "I cannot live under the same roof as you" to "You infuriate me enough that I need a long walk to calm down". Is he desperate enough to accept a room near his enemy, though? They did say to keep your enemies close...]

I suppose it's just as well. I'd rather not live with you again, either.
[Sharing a tent at the circus for two days was more than enough. But regardless, he can't resist halting with his hand on the door and speaking over his shoulder.]
-You'll be hard-pressed to find property as reasonable as this one. Few Scorched own real estate, and natives are often hesitant to rent to us.

...Do any of the rooms have decent windows?
[This is important for reasons only he needs to know. After weighing the options, he realized that possibly renting would allow him to keep a closer eye on the demon and know what he was up to. It was humiliating, but necessary. He cannot allow Michaelis to be unchecked.]

All of them do, in fact. If you wish, you may have a room with a view of the back garden, which is rather expansive and quite picturesque.
[And a tad bit run down, but hey, they've all been a bit busy lately. Sebastian tilts his head like a curious dog.]
Would you like to see it?
[Now he's more interested in seeing if he can get the reaper to co-operate more than anything else.]
Reply
[He could have thought of any number of things to get out of this, actually, and the nonchalant honesty serves to understand his actual interest.]
That is, if you could tolerate me having even one foot over the threshold.
[...and we were doing so good with being mature, too.]

...He won't even respond to that low brow comment. He just smiles, a bit forced, and steps aside, holding the door for William.]
Why don't you come in and see for yourself?

[This fake politeness comes a little more naturally than would appear, but it still sickens him to do such to that face. He follows Sebastian, glancing about at the house as they go through.]

However, the sound of nothing but their breathing and the creaking steps proves too dull. Sebastian decides to use a weapon of his own: small talk.]
And how are you readjusting to life in Anatole?
[William's not the only one who can feign politeness with ease.]

[At the same place he was looking the last time, the library. Something about being surrounded by books was comforting, familiar enough, and it could be generally called upon that no one would be shouting or being too loud. The books themselves had their own charm...some proclaimed to be from years in the future, so why not stock up on knowledge while he could?]

[You know. So he knows William will be reliable with the rent cheque.]

[Never accuse of a reaper of being dishonest with his rent. It's such an offence.]

[Books, paper, peace and quiet, the Dewey Decimal system. Definitely seems like something Spears would find appealing. Sebastian stops by the first door after the staircase spills onto the second floor. He unlocks and opens the door, showing the large room beyond, with minimal furniture, but, as promised, a large arching window that gives a good view of the expansive back garden.
Sebastian stands aside by the doorway.]
Please, feel free to enter and take a look around. I shall answer any questions you have.
