"One day at a time" is not how my life goes

Not much to say, really. Thursday evening, our largest and dimmest client ended up pulling the trigger on a major network change, causing them to lose their entire user base off the VPN concentrator and the person there responsible to be immediately sacked. I ended up getting the call at 1730 and, in an hour, got at least the primary system ( Read more... )

As far as light operation: for this production it is indeed possibly a two person notion, but they don't need to be dedicated people. One person needs to be backstage to hit the silly circuit breakers that Kid-2 hit during the rehearsal (which may or may not be a separate person as opposed to someone who's already back-stage). Since the rest of the lights (if any) need to be hit simultaneously with that, it's likely that someone else will be pushing the sliders on the light board. The sound guy volunteered to do that on the grounds that it's pretty trivial. So I'm not terribly sure there's anything for Kid-2 to do, really.

Bowie gripes are concurred to. It was _evil_ finding my way around, even with directions, and ground support in the form of bfudlmint on the phone looking at google maps. (My gratitude to tacnukesoul who got me from the restaurant to the theater and directioned me out for the way back.)

Well, Kid-2 is already going to be moving chairs around on the set during blackouts, so hitting the breakers prolly wouldn't be a problem.

In any case, even for other shows, she'd like to get into the booth and work the technical aspect of theatre...so if you know of any productions who wouldn't mind a kid backstage learning the craft, let me know.

I dare say the techs at Balticon would love to have her for setup and teardown, and quite possibly minding the boards during some of the shows too. Otherwise, my own contacts don't really spread beyond o2b2 and the Rudes. You probably know more people in more theatres than I do at this point.

I don't know about that - at least on the tech side of things - but that's an awfully good idea about Balticon. Do you know of anyone working tech there, or should I just drop them a line at the volunteer address?

If it helps at all, us Canadians are subject to the passport police too. (Doesn't help that our PM is Mini-Bush). By now, everyone flying out of Canada to, or even just over, the US, requires a passport, until now we didn't need a passport to visit our neghbour, ally, and biggest trading partner. Since I haven't flown since 1980 (mainly because of lack of $), I haven't worried too much about it, but I do drive, and might get passports for the whole family (for the first time) before our next cross-border road trip, if not for this summer's then for sis' wedding.

Defnitely before 2009 though, as we're required passports for land crossings by then too. :P
