HarperCollins has released a multi-media version of an ebook that will allow the author to "pop up onscreen at various points in the novel to talk candidly about the plot's turning points and her vivid characters

Can you imagine if JKR had the freedom to turn up amidst the pages of the HP novels?
Oh, yes - particularly during that 'How had Harry not realised what a miracle he was' monologue. I gagged enough on reading that in its literary, proofread state; if I had to stomach her "candid" insistence during those passages as well...
In the end, have there actually been more sign-ups than the last round? It certainly seemed that way to me as I was skimming over the prompts. More 'fresh meat' as well, it appeared.
Ooh, I'm certainly going to go vote. One of those nominated was my Exchange pressie for the last round, after all. *g*
Oh, yes. Sometimes, I think the best thing an author can do for his/her fans is just never speak of their story again once it's published. ~nods~
There's been about the same amount as the last exchange, actually. Just more newish people this time. We're always happy to have new members to the 'ship. ;)
LOL I agree ... What's worse, these "candid inserts" wouldn't actually be all that different (not at all different, come to think of it) from the dreaded A/N in the middle of a story/sentence/paragraph. Though I think the flames that would prompt would be quite hilarious.
Ooh, yes. Once again, I certainly agree. :D It's fantastic to see the 'ship flourishing.
The flames would probably be about the same, too. ~snicker~ From reading the comments over at Karen Scott's blog, and on Smart Bitches from time to time, it's apparent that romance readers/writers can mix it up with no problem. I expect that other genres are about the same. ;)
That is a horrible, horrible thought. It's chickening out of the responsibility of the author to tell her/his story in the actual book, and not explain what they meant in-between or even afterwards (just why does JKR have to explain so much, hm?). Ugh, I hope this idea isn't a trend and dies a quiet, unnoticed death.

Oh, I hope it does, too. Again, to be fair to the author, I don't know how much she "pops up" and exactly what she says, but I'd rather that it didn't happen at all.
I went and voted already.
I haven't. ~hangs head~ But I haven't read all the stories yet, and I do try to at least skim them through so that I can refresh my memory before voting.
Unless there's a popup that happens over every plot hole...
~falls over laughing~ Can you imagine? "Okay, I know this is a bit of a stretch here, but you've just got to believe me when I tell you that it works."
Imagine people adding multi-media ebooks to "canon." Blargh.
And to think that I was cringing when I bought a book a few months ago that had in-depth questions in the back for 'literary discussion'. Good Lord! I wanted to read the book for the book, not because I wanted to analyse the symbolism and the author's thoughts on why portrayed things a certain way.
I have a story nominated, Yes and it has garnered votes- how do I know- that would be telling. smirks
I read about that e-book, how intrusive, but perhaps there are people who like that sort of thing, can it be turned off? or do you have to listen/watch until she finishes then are allowed to continue reading? There is a community that shares ebooks if you are interested.
Why, you tease, you! ~grin~ And I'm very flattered that anyone would vote for my story.

I don't know. Surely there's an option that will allow it to be turned off. I can't imagine that they would force it on a reader. But then again, I don't know for certain.

Me, too. Most of the time, I'm just looking to be entertained. ;)
