YESTERDAYTo my fellow unfortunate Americans (haha), I hope you got your taxes done by the midnight, April 15 deadline! If not, well, you're SOL! heh Mine were e-filed by our accountant a month ago, but I waited until April 14 to mail my payments, as I was aggro about owing $470 in federal and $104 in state taxes. :( I didn't want the government to ( Read more... )

I hope things go well for your mom's friend. I can certainly send her good thoughts and prayers.

I have never seen the honey Frappucino before, though that may be because I'm a creature of habit and usually get a White Chocolate Mocha every time I'm at Starbucks. *giggle* That sounds pretty appealing to me so I'll have to try it sometime.

Thank you for the good thoughts! *hugs* Her friend is set to have surgery in an hour or two from now (my time).

You and I are BOTH creatures of habit, it seems, at Starbux! ;D I almost always get the Java Chip Frapp, and you the White Chocolate Mocha. I'm not a big fan of white chocolate, since it doesn't actually contain chocolate (heehee) but since you love it, I might give it a try some time!

Honey Frap, that's reason enough to visit a Starbucks. I rarely go. There is supposed to be a shakeup in the stores and the corporation, Howard Schultz is back as CEO, new espresso machines, more focus on coffee and health foods, less focus on teddy bears, christmas tree ornaments and chewing gum. Even a new logo. Starbucks is a stock followed in an investing site I am a member of.

I had a prayer plant in high school. Well, I had many houseplants in high school.

I briefly perused a news brief somewhere recently about Howard Schultz coming back to Starbucks, but I don't really remember what I read. And I definitely did NOT read anything about a new logo in the works! :O I don't think that will go over very well. People tend to get very attached to things like that. Anyhoo, if you like mellifluous things (how's that for a $10 word? *giggle*) then I think you would LOVE the Honey Frappuccino!

I didn't know you were into houseplants as a teenager! That's cool! :) What did you think of the prayer plant, and did yours ever flower? What were your fave houseplants in general? I have many, but one is pothos with the variegated leaves; it's pretty, it's super easy to grow, it has low light requirements, and the cuttings root super easily too. Mother-in-law's tongue (snake plant) is funny, weird and cool and tolerates just about any type of neglect -- I got one for a friend who's a "brownthumb" and it's still thriving years later! ;D

it is nearly impossible to kill a sanservia. A friend's house caught on fire with a lot of smoke damage, the sanservia lived! I had one that even flowered. They send up stalks with tiny white flowers. The flowers have dewy drops on them. My first plant was a sultana from my second grade teacher. It grew into a light starved gangly thing that fell over from its own weight and died, but it was a start. My favorite is the purple velvet plant and the panda plant. I like fuzzy! I got the green thumb from my grandma Willis (the jello salad maker LOL). You name it, I have probably had one.

LOL!! That's right... Grandma Willis of the jello salad fame! It was something like my infamous "dump jello" recipe, wasn't it? :)

Your sansevieria must've been VERY happy if it flowered! They rarely do that! heh You must've treated it a lot more kindly than those who neglect it. Despite tolerating low light, scanty watering and irregular temperature fluctuations, they are definitely happier with bright indirect light, moderate water and a nice room temperature. Some folks even give 'em a bit of weak fertilizer! :) Do you remember how you treated yours to get it to flower? (See what happens when someone gets me started talking horticulture? LOL!!)

BTW, what the heck is purple velvet plant? I like fuzziness on plants too, and everyone knows purple is my fave colour, so I expect I'd LOVE to see/try out that plant. :D I guess I'm a pretty predictable person, eh?

Bummer that you got screwed in taxes. I take 4 exemptions and still get money back every year.

HUH?! Since you don't have any dependants (well, human anyway! heehee) why do you take 4 exemptions?

Also, how on earth do you manage to get money back from Uncle Sam, despite all those exemptions?? :O And what, if anything, am *I* missing that I don't get that, especially since my total earnings last year were less than $25,000?! *blush*

I know I probably sound ignorant of how this stuff works, but in truth I really do have only a very BASIC understanding of it. heh Knowing that I need to change my "1" to "0" is good enough for me, if it keeps me from owing a large sum of money at one time! :)

Between my mortgage interest and charitable contributions, I take a LOT of deductions which reduces my taxable income. I decided that I'd rather have more take-home pay than a huge refund, so I increased my number of exemptions. As it stands, I still get back quite a bit.

I hope your friend's surgery went well! I didn't comment last night, but I did send good thoughts her way. :)

Iiii owed taxes this year, although it wasn't very much. I also filled out another W-4. Hopefully next year I won't owe anything. Hopefully I'll not buy quite so much online, either. ;)

Thank you for the good thoughts! *hugs* My mom heard from CH's brother yesterday that she was out of surgery and in recovery. We haven't heard from the brother (or from CH) today, so we're hoping that "no news is good news"! :)

That sucks that you owed taxes too this year, but it's good you changed your W-4! Here's to BOTH of us getting a refund next year instead of owing! *highfive*

Our prayer plant is still going strong, and has made lots more leaves! Ricky loves it! It is very low-maintenance, too.

I have not tried the honey frapuccino (didn't know there was such a thing) but I did try the honey latte and I wasn't incredibly impressed. I actually wondered if they'd remembered the honey! Maybe I'll try the frap next time.

Thinking healing thoughts for CH. That is scary stuff. :(

Yay for the prayer plant! :) I'm so glad it's thriving for Ricky, because I know how much he loves plants and gardening and stuff. My greenthumb buddy! heheh BTW, as the plant ever flowered? I was surprised and excited to find several of them at SummerWinds that were starting to flower!

If you try the Honey Frapp I'd be interested in your opinion, especially since you weren't that taken with the Honey Latte. Something about the Frapp was just kinda... weird. I wonder if they used TOO much honey in mine?

Thank you for the healing thoughts for CH! *hugs* We are all hoping for the best; she sure deserves it!!
