Can't sleep; worried about Spanky

Jun 04, 2011 04:04

It's nearly 4 AM. I woke, couldn't go back to sleep, came out to check on the kitties. I'm worried about Spanky. He's having a tougher time getting around. I think this thing growing inside him is getting bigger. He still eats, but not as much. I suspect he's not drinking enough water. I may call the vet tomorrow morning ( Read more... )

I'm so sorry honey. This is a difficult time, and it's so hard. When they stop eating and drinking, they're ready. That's what we've learned from our pets. It's the only wisdom I have for you.

And I'm so sorry because I know how very, very hard it is.

Love and hugs. Let us know if there's anything we can do.

I said, in the reply to another post, that with Spanky I feel like I've got a little "circle of life" thing going on, but this morning proved me wrong. I'm not ready to let him go, but I obviously need to be. I've had him since he was four weeks old; he's still my foundling in my heart. But that makes him my responsibility, and I need to do the right thing by him when the time comes. Which, well, may be soon.

Aw, honey. That's so hard.

We are giving Myst an antidepressant that is also a very effective appetite stimulant and anti-nausea medication. It's worked wonders for a cat who was literally starving herself to death, probably because she was sick to her stomach all the time. I think the caveat is that the cat has to be healthy enough to handle digesting food, which apparently Myst is, so I don't know if it would help. But it's called mirtazapine, if that's any use to you.
