Spanky's vet visit

May 21, 2011 10:30

Took Spank to the vet this morning for his three-month check up, post-new-medication regime. He was, as usual, a hellcat. The vet said that the crankiest cats live the longest, and that as long as he had fight, his prospects were good. The vet also said that he seemed to be responding well to the meds, the sub-q fluids, and all the rest of the stuff we're doing. All good there.

The new development is that Spanky has a mass growing on his liver. This could explain his increased sleeping and decreased appetite. The vet wouldn't say cancer, because apparently sometimes these things aren't that. He did say that this happens with older kitties (Spanky will be 17 this summer) but that he's seen kitties with this development last as long as a year in good shape and with good quality of life. Basically, my job is to keep him warm and comfortable, safe and as healthy as I can, and we go from there. So . . . that's what I'll do.
