The awful and the good

With one glaring exception, today was just a fine, fine day.

The exception, of course, was the shooting of Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords, Justice John Roll, and the many people who were killed or injured alongside them at the Congress on Your Corner event earlier today. e_moon60 has made an excellent post on the subject, well worth reading, ( Read more... )

As I mentioned over on FB, we had and lost a Bucca di Beppo here in Omaha over a fairly short period. I was there maybe three times and it seemed full to me. I'm guessing all the local (excellent) Italian restaurants were too much for a chain, or the property developer saw more opportunity for the location (which has since become a strip mall). We ate once at the BDB Kitchen Table and it was grand fun. Have driven past the Seattle BDB many times but have never eaten there. Some of our primary Seattle contacts pooh-pooh the very idea of BDB, so *they* aren't going to take us!

One of the giant problems with BDB is that you really do need to go with a crowd to get your money's worth, since they take the idea of family-style serving very seriously. Of course, we recently lost one of the best Italian restaurants in town, which makes me a little more positively disposed toward BDB. The food's not bad and, honestly, if I can have another shot at that canneloni, I'd be all over it. OK, next time you're in Seattle, we'll set up a group dinner at BDB. :-) Soon?

Deal. Probably besides the point is that there are roughly ten million other Seattle restaurants you've previously recommended. Guess we'd better get going.
