I'm trying to enter the 21 Century and it won't let me in!

Went to the Comcast Web site this morning to look into finally getting a high-speed internet connection at home. When I navigated to the "Prices" page in Firefox, I would type my information into the text boxes and nothing would happen. When I opened the same page in Safari, I'd enter my information, hit "On You Go" and then the browser would shut ( Read more... )

There's always DSL, which at least down here in PDX is noticeably cheaper than Comca$t (granting that I don't get cable TV, which might make a difference in the numbers). Indeed, DSL is now cheap enough locally that Verizon is rolling out FiOS (aka "Fiber Optic") 'Net access, which is apparently DSL-like but on steroids, as the next step up from DSL.

Mind you, Comca$t would probably be cheaper if they hadn't been spending $$$ direct-mailing me ads for broadband, cable, etc. three days a week for the past decade....

I'm looking at other options including DSL and other companies besides Comcast because you're right about the $$$. This moving into the modern era stuff? Not so fun. ;-)

I'm very happy with Speakeasy, though as mentioned they're not chasing the low price market.

I was planning to go with Comcast way back when, and their site was just as annoying a couple years back. Then I heard that they put all sorts of ISPs on spam lists and dooky-can legit emails. A couple of agents have complained about it on their blogs.

Eventually I went with MSN on Qwest, which isn't the best solution for a lot of reasons, but is the cheapest. And before I had a Mac, I used Hotmail Popper to download msn webmail into Thunderbird. (Hotmail Popper doesn't work with Macs).

Good luck. I have friends who swear by $peakea$y, but I can't afford them.

We're on Qwest DSL - can't say we're 100% happy - but I'm ever so much happier with their service than I was with Comcast when we had their cable service. I really disliked Comcast.

Remember - we had our internet service backup (as well as our satellite service) as soon as the power came back on.

FWIW, we have Comcast -- and for 8mps, it's a decent deal. Haven't had any issues with them as of yet (came on with the power), but that, of course, is no guarentee.

I couldn't find any DSL that went anywhere near that fast -- and the price differentials worked out to about $10 a month after all the bits and pieces are figured out.

I have Comcast 'net simply because it was, well, simple for me. The price is pretty good, but I only have basic cable. You upgrade the tv package, and it can get ouchy.

And their service people are shite, but I've yet to find anyone's who isn't.
