How can you know if something turned out okay because of what you did or in spite of what you did?

Asking those in a position to know tends to work.

I'm not really sure there's anyone "in the know" I can ask about this sort of thing.

The you're going to have to hope you have a gift for multiple choice.

I heard there was a "what could have happened" type curse. I wouldn't mind that one coming around again.

Oh ~ well.

You rather don't, and then you die.

I'm dead and I still don't have the answer though.

Barring concrete answers via observation, you make a decision one way or the other and just go with it.

The decision was made a long time ago, I just want to know if it was the best decision to make.

That's not what I meant.

Was it, objectively, the best decision? Perhaps, perhaps not, but it was the best decision you could have made at the time. You are only yourself, after all, and it is unfortunately impossible for most people to learn from harmless mistakes.

I don't even know if it was the best decision at the time. I thought it was, but I think if I'm honest with myself I might have just been telling myself.

You bloody well hope it's the first.

Not exactly helpful.

You didn't ask for a helpful answer.

That's true.

Most of the time, you can't. You just have to hope, and know yourself.

That last part is what worries me.

We all have to make decisions in life, no matter how difficult.

True, but it's when others pay for them that it gets especially difficult.
