Sometimes I love being Asian so much it hurts.

Case in point: While in the checkout line at one of the bajillion korean supermarkets surrounding me (hello 5 bunches of green onions for 99¢!) I spied THIS amazing treat:

Just wondering.. do you speak korean?

I don't have a drop of asian blood in my veins which makes me wonder why I love their culture so... (except some things I hear about koreans eating dog meat and japanese killing dolphins and whales.. ;/)

Glad you're feeling better! *hugs*

well, I only understand some words and phrases now (and I can phonetically sound out words when I read it, but I because my vocabulary is practically non-existent I don't know wtf I'm saying), but I used to. I was born in the states but then my dad got stationed back in Seoul, and I lived there til I was about 4. So Korean is actually my first language (and according to my mother, I was really good), but then we moved back to the US and my mom was so worried about how me and my brother would do in school that she ONLY spoke to us in English so that we both forgot our Korean. :( It's totally sad, and I know she really regrets it now. ha, you probably didn't expect such a looooong answer ( ... )

I have a similar experience with language. My dad is argentinian and my mom is brazilian, but she knows how to speak spanish very well, consequently there was more spanish speaking in the house than portuguese (my mom only spoke portuguese with me) so when I went to school (I think I was 4 or something...) I didn't know how to speak portuguese properly, my language was kind of mixed... but a few years in school corrected that, and I went on speaking in spanish with my dad as always, so now I speak both as first languages ( ... )

lol, the whole world seems to be addicted to Korean soap operas! ha, I don't really get it, it kind of cracks me up. But actually? Korean is REALLY REALLY EASY to learn to read. Korean is the only true east asian alphabet, it it's sort of ridiculous as to how easy it is to learn - when i taught world history, i would teach my students how to spell their names in like 15 mintues.

omg, the pig was HORRIBLE. lol, it was HUGE and just sort of gross. And when I first moved into that building, I didn't know they had a pig, so whenever I would walk past their fenced-in patio, I would hear this WEIRD ASS SNUFFLING coming through the fence! ha, when I finally saw that it was a giant pig, I totally lolled!

but you can't have everything.
But we can try, Sonja! And your fellow Koreans come damn close.

I believe in a better future.

i'm asian by injection (or so says my boyfriend) so i get to eat all of those fun weird foods. but most of the weird foods we eat are filipino. i only spit out one dish at his sister's wedding and had to rinse out my mouth.

we were all over maui the last week and i was a little concerned because i was the only white person anywhere but the tourist spots, and he kept telling everyone the injection line to make me fit in. but luckily i think it's hilarious so i let him tell it as much as he wants.
i can't pronounce any of the names of foods, so i just explain what it tastes like and his mom makes it for me. thank god his entire family loves me.
