I am sad to see that even under Obama, the US seem to want to take it's "own lane" in international politics. How powerful is the Jewish groups in the US ( Read more... )

Historically, jews have seemingly always been important in financial regard - modern banking is based on principles from biblical days in jewish areas, for one, and in more modern times there have been a lot of significantly wealthy jews that have been important investors in the US in general.
This likely still stands. I mean, it's not THAT long ago since USA decreed that the state of Israel should be carved out of Palestine (I think), just so jews could have their own country.
Own country or not, the majority of jews reside in the US - and this may obviously be an important demographic for any president to appeal to.

So, first of all, I'm just going to say I'm not the typical Yank that has undying, mad (as in foaming at the mouth) love for Israel. I just don't get it. It seems to me that Israel's the superstar and the US is the geeky dork with bad skin and weird clothes tugging on Israel's coattails. But that said, after watching this video: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=d3b_1275323514 I don't see how it could be misconstrued that the "peaceful activists" were coming for anything other than violence ( ... )

But the problem is, they were NOT in israeli waters! Is that what is said on US news? Check other media. They were far from israeli waters, and turkey can by international law regard this as an act of war... And the US supports israel, attacking ships from a NATO county in international waters.. See the problem?

Regardless as to who was where, if you are boarded by a foreign military, is your response to:

A) Comply with the military?
B) Do as they say to avoid confrontation?
C) Beat the soldiers down with metal rods, knives and axes as soon as they land on the boat?

If you answer C, you get what's coming to ya- it doesn't matter who was in the wrong first :/ Two wrongs don't make me feel sorry for them- the soldiers were only defending themselves. If only 10 people got killed out of 750-something, I don't think they were being excessive or brutal. Especially if you watch how those "peaceful activists" were absolutely beating the ever living crap out of the soldiers as soon as they landed on the ship. They didn't even try talking, they immediately resorted to extreme violence.

I think that says the most about the situation.
