The US versus The Others, again?

I am sad to see that even under Obama, the US seem to want to take it's "own lane" in international politics. How powerful is the Jewish groups in the US ( Read more... )

So, first of all, I'm just going to say I'm not the typical Yank that has undying, mad (as in foaming at the mouth) love for Israel. I just don't get it. It seems to me that Israel's the superstar and the US is the geeky dork with bad skin and weird clothes tugging on Israel's coattails. But that said, after watching this video: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=d3b_1275323514 I don't see how it could be misconstrued that the "peaceful activists" were coming for anything other than violence.

From what I understand of what happened, basically the Israelis blockade Gaza for years now, so these ships leave from turkey with 10,000 tonnes of supplies and 750 Arab peace activists and head for Gaza, in violation of Israel's blockade. Then they entered Israeli waters and the Israelis board the ship. The people onboard attack the soldiers. The Israelis have the right to board vessels in its waters. The activists attack them with clubs, axes, metal poles and knives, so the soldiers fight back. Other than which side of the water they're on, the video proves most of what I thought had happened.

Then again, the middle eastern idea of a "peaceful protest" is to not bring guns- knives, poles, axes, oh those are apparently ok. :/

I'm on the side of equality. I'd feel bad for the protesters if they'd done what proper protesters do and sat down and had a hunger strike or something. But instead they were the ones who started with the violence. I don't feel sorry for them.

But the problem is, they were NOT in israeli waters! Is that what is said on US news? Check other media. They were far from israeli waters, and turkey can by international law regard this as an act of war... And the US supports israel, attacking ships from a NATO county in international waters.. See the problem?

Regardless as to who was where, if you are boarded by a foreign military, is your response to:

A) Comply with the military?
B) Do as they say to avoid confrontation?
C) Beat the soldiers down with metal rods, knives and axes as soon as they land on the boat?

If you answer C, you get what's coming to ya- it doesn't matter who was in the wrong first :/ Two wrongs don't make me feel sorry for them- the soldiers were only defending themselves. If only 10 people got killed out of 750-something, I don't think they were being excessive or brutal. Especially if you watch how those "peaceful activists" were absolutely beating the ever living crap out of the soldiers as soon as they landed on the ship. They didn't even try talking, they immediately resorted to extreme violence.

I think that says the most about the situation.
