What Comics Do You Like?

So I'm just curious what comics if any you read/collect/look at the pretty pictures. I've seen lots of discussion on Buffy and Supernatural Origins comics of course since most people I know online are associated with one or both of those fandoms ( Read more... )

Yay Buffy!

I wanted to read Runaways...but I'm afraid I'm waaaaaay too far behind and I don't like starting something in the middle.

I also read those Angel comics, like right now I'm reading Spike: Shadow Puppets. Those are actually kind of underrated, in my opinion.

Runaways did this single comic that summed up the entire series in one comic. It came out before Joss took over at 25. It was like a diary type thing in the point of view of Molly. Pretty much all text with a few pictures so they could fit all the info in.

I wasn't too impressed with the random Angel comics I read but I've heard good things about the Spike comics. Maybe I'll give it a shot. I do plan to read the Angel Season 6 comic they're gonna do.

The Angel comics had hits and misses. The Angel standalones are great.

To my knowledge, there are two Spike series. The first one was called Spike: Asylum, which I just LOVED. The new one is the Shadow Puppets one, which tackles the question 'What if Spike was turned into a wee little puppet man?' I'd recommend both, even though Shadow Puppets is only 2 comics in. :p

Aw man, Civil War and the aftermath have made me hate Tony Stark something awful. It's pretty sad when I can think about about a character: "I liked him a lot more when he was a drunken womanizer." I'm almost hoping he'll turn out to be a Skrull in the next big event, but I'd also like to see a him have a huge downfall ( ... )

I can't believe I forgot Astonishing X-Men! I'm all about the Kitty Pryde love. :)

I am thinking of starting to read Ultimate Spider-man. Ever since the random issue I read where Spider-man was dating Kitty. Being a comic store owner it's sad but I didn't realize they had changed Spider-man storylines that much. I just figured it was all just the same old same old.

They've actually done a pretty decent job in making Ulitmate Spidey different. Although in the current arc he just got back together with MJ, the word is that the Kitty storyline isn't done yet (she's actually going to the same high school as him now).

One of the things I really liked about Ulitmate Spiderman is that the first 111 issues are all done by the same artist, which gives it a great sense of consistancy.

And in the 616 universe everything is so serious these days. Ultimate has done a good job of keeping Spidey snappy and joke-cracking, even when situations are pretty dire.

Plus, Nick Fury rocks my socks and is in the book quite frequently. The art for him was modeled after Samuel L. Jackson and it's all kinds of cool.

I knew that him looking like Samuel L Jackson couldn't be a coincidence. lol

I thought about reading Runaways, and I've been interested in trying to pick up the older comics for something like Batman. But until Buffy came along, my only experience with comics was limited to The Archies and some book about a bunch of comic book characters on vacation, which I still haven't been able to figure out what it was. One of the female characters in it reminded me of Trinity from The Matrix, though. I know they mentioned her name in the book, but I can't remember it. It's been bugging me for years.

I always liked Batman. I haven't kept up with the issues like I should but Batman and his people will always have a special place in my heart. *tears* ;)

And Runaways is pretty good.

And I wonder what that comic you're talking about is.

Random Batman thoughts...

If you're looking for some great Batman stories these are what I'd suggest:
Batman: No Mans Land
Batman: Dark Knight Returns
Batman: In Darkest Knight (if you can find it. It's a what if type story where Bruce Wayne gets a Green Lantern Ring)

Actually a lot of the Batman stories after No Mans Land were pretty good.

I'll have to look for those. Thanks.

I've got a very love/hate relationship with comics. Currently I'm reading buffy. I'd have to special order Supernatural to get it, because the local shop dosen't just stock it.

I kind of got soured on reading comics with the All New! All Different! All Over Again! X-men. I got tired of them revamping the book once a year, throwing out everything they ever did, just to take the book in a new direction. So burnt out that I didn't even give it a fair shake when they brought Joss on board. And that's saying a lot.

I remember reading thor when I was younger, and liking it. But they lost me on a revamp.

So yeah. Love/hate comics.

The past couple of years have seen a huge improvement in the quality of the art and storytelling in comics. In my opinion at least. I think the companies finally realized if they wanted people to keep buying they needed to make it worth buying.

That's good. Because for the price of two or three good comics, I can buy a paperback novel.

If I had sixty-five grand I would buy Batman #1 and not because of the awesomeness of the Caped Crusader. Though his is pretty damn awesome but because it has the first appearance of Catwoman (simply called The Cat), I’m her fangirl to the umpteenth degree. Except Frank Miller’s version, I’m sorry but I just can’t picture Selina as a high priced prostitute/dominatrix ( ... )

I was a huge Catwoman fan until the most recent incarnation. I just don't like the whole goggles/short hair look. I too started with that Catwoman #0 and got it until last year. I almost wish Catwoman did more with Birds of Prey.

I kind of miss finding time to read all the comics I get.
